As I was paying in a Hallmark store the other day, I noticed a naked Kindle sitting on the counter. I looked up and asked the other customer if it was hers. "Yes," she said, "but I'm so worried about it not having a cover because it might get damaged." I felt saying like she should be more concerned about setting a small $300 device on the counter in a busy store!

So, had to go into work waaaaaayyyyyy early today 'cause DH had to get to the church early to clear the walks.  So I got myself a hot chocolate and sat down to read on my DX until it was time to go to the office.   A little while later a fellow sat down at the next table and got out his kindle to read.  A bit after that a fellow came over and asked about them -- mostly the other guy's as it was the smaller -- said he had a nook on order.  Asked about how we liked e-readers.  Observed we both had covers and wondered if maybe he should have ordered one.  I pointed out that it was good to have something to protect the screen while it's in a backpack or whatever.  So he said he would go order one. . . .

so that's one wild Kindle
and one wild nook on order. Cheesy

Last night I saw a kindle at my health club.  The owner wasn't with it!  It was sitting on the counter in front of the mirror where people use a hair dryer or put on makeup.  It had a brown cover and no skin.  I didn't want to stop and look at it, because it might look as if I was about to steal it.

I have yet to actually see any e-readers in the wild, other than mine. But when I use it I get LOTS of questions and comments, so I guess Im helping to spread the word!

I was in a local coffee shop yesterday reading my DX. A woman came in and for some strange reason I got this feeling that she would be coming over to ask me about my Kindle, and I was preparing what my family calls my "Kindle Speech". Instead, she sat down next to me, pulled out *her* DX and said "These things sure are great, aren't they?" Cheesy Another Kindle in the wild.

I was at Caribou with a friend today having a coffee and a gal sat down near us with her "naked" Kindle 2.  We chatted about how we both love it and I told her she needs to "dress" it so she wrote down the oberon website and decalgirl.  I am so use to mine being "dressed" that hers looked so vulnerable for scratches and breaking if she dropped it.

A friend of mine was travelling in Nigeria a week ago and spotted a Kindle in the airport in Yola. My friend received a Kindle for Christmas but had not used it (long story). Spotting the Kindle - in a town that is not yet on Google maps - spiked her interest in using her own Kindle.

So I helped her get hers up and running earlier this week. She travels frequently and I hope she finds her Kindle as good a travel companion as many of us have.

My travels to South Africa were what really made me want a Kindle; I was reading a fat book, and it was a hassle to travel with it, plus to travel lightly, I limited myself to only 2 books.
Returned home a week before Christmas, then, SURPRISE, I got a Kindle for Christmas! I wouldn't have wanted one without the Africa experience;
but back to the main point:
Kindle in the Wild:
My next trip, I was sitting in the Sacramento airport, reading on my Kindle; at the time it had a purple m-edge Prodigy cover and the Monet Garden @ Giverny DecalGirl skin; the woman sitting next to me brought out her Kindle; it had a red m-edge Platform jacket, but no skin.
She was really interested in the skin, she hadn't even heard of them, so I told her about decalgirl and Kindleboards; it was really satisfying; then the man sitting next to me on the plane expressed interest in my Kindle, and I extolled the virtues of it for about an hour (off & on), he really did seem interested and kept asking questions about it; then turned to his wife and told her how he now "needed" one; it was really cute.

My first ever kindle sighting was in Vietnam, on a Junk boat, about 20 months ago.  When I returned home to Australia one of the first things I did was try to order one from Amazon, but alas, no go!  So when it was released Internationally I pre ordered and was one of the first in Australia to get it.  So, that makes my kindle watch over 18 months!

The next kindle I saw was in January 2010 - we were holding a conference in Australia and a colleague from NY had just received one for Christmas.  It was in a M Edge cover.  Everyone else, esp the women, were drooling over my well dressed kindle, which was all decal-girled out with M Edge cover, and also with a matching IPhone decal.  They had never seen anything like it.  Needless to say decalgirl got a lot of hits that night!

I've only seen one other K.  I happened to be in line at Barnes and Noble one day.  The lady in front of me was buying a paperback book.  I asked her what the odd looking "book" was in her other hand.  She said it was a K and explained what it was.  She said that every once in a while she had to get a "book fix" because she missed the feel and smeel of a book every now and then.  I went directly home and researched Kindle.  I fell in love.  Two months later my husband surprised me with a K2 for my birthday.  Since I received my K2 five months ago I have not seen another Kindle  Sad

Mystery and romance

Today I saw a Kindle in the wild for the very first time (Colorado).  My car was being serviced, and in the waiting room, there was a guy with a K2, no cover, reading away.  Mine is a K1 and covered.  I am probably less likely to have this happen than most people because I don't go to coffee shops and places where people sit and read very often.  Also, I very rarely take my Kindle out of the house because of my fear I'll leave it somewhere.  My history with sunglasses is enough to make anyone nervous.  Still, it was very cool to see another Kindler it the waiting room.

I got my Kindle in December as a Christmas party for myself.  It was funny, because the very next day was our union's Christmas party and that was my first wild sighting.  Another gal I know well had also got a Kindle.  So we both had ours out showing off for the 'natives'.

She came into my office this week for the first time in ages and she had her Kindle with her.  I let her know about Kindle Boards and neat tricks y'all have taught me like paying for my books with Gift Cards.  Wink  She appreciated that since her family had got her a bunch of Amazon gift cards that she was still working on, so the tip came just in time.

My oncologist/radiologist has a K.  My nurse has a Nook, but is wanting a K instead.  She's planning on passing her Nook to her daughter and getting a K.  The techs have started playing with my K when I leave it outside of the treatment room.  Two of them said they've put a K on their gift list with their spouses.

I had to give blood yesterday and the phlebotomists stopped me to talk about my K and one said her brother owned one and loved it.

Of course I've told everyone of them about KB.

I've only seen one in the wild, a gentleman reading in an airport...I disremember which airport, may have been Oakland. Mine hasn't been outside the house yet. I'm looking forward to Kindling in the pool (must get a waterproof cover, of course) and taking her on her first trip Smiley.

Kim, if you're going to be near water I would definitely suggest you find something at least water resistant.
Of course, if you plan on taking your K into a pool I would think you'd be better to go with waterproof.
Happy reading.

I saw my first last weekend. I was so floored I nearly took a photo, but thought it rude LOL. I did mention it in my blog - my DH thought that I was a bit sad for that so I googled it and lo and behold, even found an m-edge cover competition for kindle in the wild photos Kindle in the Wild photo competition

Saw my first today.

We were picking up our son and his wife at the airport today and while we were waiting for their luggage I looked across and saw a lady standing on the other side very engrossed in her Kindle.  My hubby said "you better pull yours out"  Grin  I wanted to go over and ask her what she was reading because she was doing a lot of 'next' page pressing without looking up.

Right before spring break (this past week) I was sitting in class reading my kindle 1 (before I got my 2). We had a substitute teacher right out of college, and she came over to my desk, tapped my shoulder and grinned at me, holding up her own. It was a very cool bonding moment. We had a whole conversation about what books we thought should be available and some covers we wanted. The rest of the class thinks it's super cool now whenever I pull it out.

I had my 1st K sighting a couple of weeks ago at my hairdressers. Well, you could have knocked me over. This was a stranger that I had not told about the K. Smiley Most of the time, I'm doing the telling. This lady was sitting down waiting, & reading, while I was hurredly trying to get ready to leave. I stared at her K. Naked in a pretty case, maybe M-edge. I even asked her if that was a kindle. She said yes. I showed her my cross body bag where I had my K2 in. Since I was in a rush, I told her all the info., this group, as I could think of, until my hairdresser told me that I should go, as my mother was waiting for me in the car. LOL! We had such a great talk about books, etc. She had just gotten her K in Dec., she told me, after I fired off all the info. :)That was so much fun.
My father had shown his Eye Dr. his K, & when he went last week, his Dr. told him that he got a K for Christmas as well.
