sorry to hear that it was stolen. But you're right, at least it wasn't your car. Not that anyone needs that type of stress over christmas regardless.

Hi, So sorry to hear that about your kindle.... Cry
well...  my husband's car got stolen on Christmas Eve in 2003 in Honolulu, Hawaii (we used to live there...)
He had so many gift in back seat and parked at mall for more gifts and watch movie with my oldest daughter.... few hours later.. it was gone...       but it's a small island... soon as we reported to police they already found it in other side of island... he got rested...
but he took all our Christmas gifts... except!!!   "Christian CD"   Shocked
I think that was the most he needed to take with him!!!

after that happend... I don't leave that much stuff in a car at all.
especially now with Kindle, iphone, pures etc....   I always take all even just go in few minutes stops... even my purse is heavy.... Wink

Hope you enjoying your new kindle!!
Merry Christmas and happy new year!!!

Amazon has records of Kindle serial numbers. When one is reported stolen I don't know why they can't prevent that Kindle from being re-registered.

Would the Kindle even be usable without reregistering it with Amazon? (Other than the books that are currently on it) If that is the case, and you report it stolen to Amazon, wouldn't they have a moral imperative NOT to facilitate that Kindle's continued use?

it is usable without being registered. You can DL tons of books via USB cable to it from any number of sites.
Amazon does not brick it, because they have no proof you did not sell it via ebay or something, and are now claiming it stolen.
