After months of lurking on various Kindle boards, and not so subtle hints to my husband, I became the proud owner of a BEAUTIFUL, shiny new Kindle on Christmas morning! We bonded instantly, and spent Christmas day together shopping for books ( free ones and 2 inexpensive ones) and happily reading away.... I read 3 books in the first 24 hours, and then.... Wanted to shop and purchase another book, but my Whispernet just refused to work.... reset my device, waited patiently (sort of), scoured forums for help, and finally had to call Kindle CS this morning for help. Although both reps that I spoke with were wonderfully patient and helpful, neither one was able to resurrect my Whispernet connection, and ultimately, it was decided that the best course of action would be to send me a replacement Kindle- I will have it in hand on Tuesday (which is fabulously fast), and I am very satisfied with the service and solution to my problem, but.... It is a snowy, cold Sunday here in Chicagoland, and all I want to do is curl up on the couch and continue bonding with my Kindle... and I can't! I know that it won't kill me to wait 2 more days, but I am sad.... Please console me, and allow me to live vicariously through those of you who are spending you Sunday cuddled up with your Kindles... I am going to have to clean my house or something in order to pass the time!

Well, since you still have a computer connection, you could always download a book to your computer and transfer it to the kindle via the USB cable. Then when you get your new kindle and register it, you can whispernet it from your archives to your new kindle.
I had the same problem with my 1st Kindle and thats how i got over the hump in waiting.
Good luck!

Thanks for the idea! Right now, I am consoling myself by perusing skins and covers (shopping therapy usually helps!!), much to the chagrin of my husband....

Greetings and Welcome, ZsuZsu!! We are so glad you found KindleBoards! Sorry about your Whispernet problem, but as was mentioned, you cna load books via the usb cord. But, it also is a good time to check out KB! We have many areas that you probably will like. Have you been to The Book Corner yet? That's the area for discussions about books (naturally). That's also where you will find threads about books Recommended by our Members and a list of additional sites for Book Lovers. Then there is the Book Bazaar where our member/authors post about their books and hold discussions about writing, publishing and many other topics. That is also where you will find Bargain Books and even Free Books threads where you can find reading material at low or no cost! Here is a link to get you started: Master list of free & under $1 titles available from Amazon. If you have a question about your Kindle or it's usage, check out the FAQ or the forum about Tips, Tricks and Trouble Shooting . Or, just ask your question. We have many helpful and knowledgeable people here at KB and we feel there is no such thing as a "dumb" question. Another popular place is Let's Talk Kindle, where all things in the Kindle world are posted about. Be sure and check out the Photo Gallery, where pictures of members, pets, flowers, landscapes or just almost anything interesting can be found. Have you been to the Accessories area? There you will see information about covers, skins, lights, bags, stands and many other items to allow you to personalize your Kindle. Looking to just kill some time while you are waiting for your Kindle or if you have your kindle, want to try something different? Try INFINITY Game - Word Association or The "INFINITY" Thread: KEEP POSTING...Ready, Set,... GO!!! in the Not Quite Kindle area. Sorry for the long post, but there is just so much to do, learn and like about KindleBoards that I just get carried away.

Zhu Zhu, retail therapy is an approved treatment for Kindlitis. When you're feeling better, you can use zweible's idea to get yourself some more books. Oh, and hang out here as long as you want.

Welcome to the board! Sorry about your whispernet But I agree, an Oberon cover would help with that heartache.

I agree, download direct from your computer so you don't miss a thing Oh and check out the Noreve covers as well. They are so soft and their rail system is the best I've tried. IMO it is much nicer than Oberon's corners or velcro.

You could spend hours at Oberson, Borsa Bella and Decalgirl.. and that is just for starters
And I assume the kindle isn't frozen but just won't bring up whispernet? If so then of course you can always read!

Sorry about your connection problems, but you at least can visit with us. As the unofficial kinquisinator here, we have some questions for you.
1) What were the books you downloaded? 2) What type of kindle did you get (k2 or DX)? 3) What is your favorite color?
Okay you can skip number 3, but the more you tell us, the more we can help you later.

It is a snowy, cold Sunday here in Chicagoland, . . . . Where are you, ZsuZsu? I'm in Lombard. I have a K1. I'm not a voracious reader like most here. But when I have used the WhisperNet, I've had no problems. We should have enough cell towers in the area.

Scarlet- I have a K2- I downloaded The Help and the first 2 Sookie Stackhouse books in the Vampire Series Sandpiper- I am in Grayslake. I know I have good coverage here- my ATT cell phone always has 5 bars and the 3G..... the Whispernet worked fine from my house for the first books that I got, and then it just died and wouldn't come back. Reset my Kindle twice and reset to factory defaults on the advice of CS- and it would "flash" on for a moment and then just turn itself off.... oh well- tomorrow my new one should arrive!! I spent about 2 hours yesterday looking at skins at DecalGirl- there are so many fun ones!!! For those that have one, is the pattern on the front distracting at all? Or does it just kind of become "background" once you get used to it? I have a feeling my Kindle is going to end up with a number of covers... there is just NO WAY I can decide on ONE- and I wear different clothes depending upon my mood, so why shouldn't my Kindle? LOL

Just one more day, right Zsu-Zsu? Look at it this way, you have the fun of a SECOND KindleWatch and we get to share it! We LOOOOVE Kindle Watch!
Have you chosen a skin yet? I like to say a skin is like a new haircut on a spouse. At first, it's all you notice, but eventually you get used to the look and the spouse looks the same as always. The skin will be a little distracting at first, but you'll stop thinking about it.

I haven't chosen a skin yet- it seems like a bit more "permanent" of a decision than choosing covers since the covers are easy to swap on and off, but the skin "sticks" for a while..... Maybe I need to wait a little bit and find out what kind of personality my new Kindle has before making the decision- but they sure look cool on the Kindles!!!

Sorry you had a problem with your very first Kindle, but the others have all given very good advice. Get your cover and your skin and have them ready or at least on the way when your new Kindle arrives.
