In My Place Condemned He Stood: Celebrating the Glory of Atonement
< http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AMLI1W/?tag=kindleboards-20 > ,
by J.I. Packer & Mark Dever.

Book Description
An important anthology that reaffirms the classic doctrine of
substitutionary atonement and counters the ongoing attacks against it.
If ever there was a time and a need for an enthusiastic reaffirmation of
the biblical doctrine of substitutionary atonement, it is now. With this
foundational tenet under widespread attack, J. I. Packer and Mark
Dever's anthology plays an important role, issuing a clarion call to
readers to stand firm in the truth.

In My Place Condemned He Stood combines three classic articles by Packer
("The Heart of the Gospel"; his Tyndale Biblical Theology Lecture, "What
Did the Cross Achieve"; and his introductory essay to John Owen's The
Death of Death in the Death of Christ)with Dever's recent article,
"Nothing but the Blood." It also features a foreword by the four
principals of Together for the Gospel: Dever, Ligon Duncan, C. J.
Mahaney, and Al Mohler. Thoughtful readers looking for a compact classic
on this increasingly controversial doctrine need look no farther than
this penetrating volume.

About the Authors
J. I. Packer is a professor of theology at Regent College in Vancouver,
British Columbia. Dr. Packer has written many books, including Knowing
God, and also served as general editor for the English Standard Version
Bible.

Mark Dever, author of several books and articles, serves as the senior
pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Along with his
pastoral responsibilities, Dr. Dever is also the executive director of
9Marks.

G. K. Chesterton's book Orthodoxy is public domain, I recommend getting it from another site such as feedbooks. The formating is much better than Amazon's. There are a few that have been free but I do not know the Current price of these books.

"Pure pleasure: Why do Christians Feel so Bad about Feeling Good?" by Gary L. Thomas. This books was free two weeks ago.

"Deadlock" by James Scott Bell was free a few days ago. It is quite a good read if your interested in law. It's a Christian Fiction novel.

Hi all,

I'm new to these boards, but since I just "bought" 5 free Kindle books that look interesting, I thought I'd jump in and post them. Smiley These are all Christian fiction - which is my favorite type of fiction.

Thanks, Deb. Smiley Looks like an interesting place, here. I'll have to tell my friends about it. I just recently started wanting a Kindle. Haven't broken down and purchased one yet. But I've been using the free app for PC and am enjoying that.

I keep telling myself, I'll get one when I have a little extra cash, one of these days.  Roll Eyes The thing is, I'm afraid that hanging out here is only going to make me want one even more.  Wink

Anyhow, thanks again for the welcome.

Deb, Ha! I see in your siggy now that it says you are a Kindle Enabler.  Cheesy

I also see that you are going through radiation. I didn't look at your signature closely yesterday. I'm sorry you are in the midst of that. I'll be praying for you.

Suzanne, can you transfer books from your PC app to your Kindle and back? Or can you have books on both places at once? And thanks for the welcome. Smiley

Thank you, Lynnette.  It's not really as bad as it might seem.  I had a partial mastectomy in December and the spot they removed turned out to be cancer.  But very very small cancer.  The radiation is simply a precaution.  Besides being tired and my skin starting to burn, I'm really not feeling anything.  I've been reading, cross stitching, and spending a lot of time here on KB.
Thank you for your prayers.

Suzanne, can you transfer books from your PC app to your Kindle and back? Or can you have books on both places at once? And thanks for the welcome. Smiley

Welcome, Lynnette.

I can answer that question:  Yes, you can have books on both places at once.  And when you buy a book for one device (pc, a Kindle, a second Kindle, etc.) you can then send it to any others on your Amazon account.  There is a section under Manage My Kindle where you can do that.  Or on a Kindle, you can open it from your archives if the wireless is on & it will be downloaded.  I have downloaded the same book to my Kindle & the pc application.

Because of the DRM, you have to go through Amazon to make it available for the other device.  You cannot just copy it from your PC to the Kindle if you haven't designated it for that device first.

I believe that the default for the number of devices that the same book can be on at one time is six; but publishers can designate a different number.  I have sometimes seen this listed in the description section on Amazon.

DH & I both have Kindles registered to my account.  It is really nice for Bibles - I can buy one & we can both have it on our Kindles at the same time.

Thanks for answering that so well, Lynninva. Some books I prefer for the Kindle for PC. The one I really like is a cookbook I got a while ago that was free. I can't imagine reading a cookbook on a Kindle; it would drive me batty. Also, I have The Chronological Study Bible, NKJV, on my Kindle. It's much nicer to use the Kindle for PC app for looking at pictures, etc. I also have that book in DTV which is the one I primarily use. It's the Bible I am reading this year.

Some day I will get one of those little "netbooks" - I think that is what they are called. They go about $300 to $500 I think. I think the Kindle for PC app will be wonderful on them too.

Color is a long way off on e-ink, as I just read in Amazon news coverage yesterday. As for Christian books, all of mine have such a theme, and they are pretty cheap. I wish I could give them all away. Kindle-friendly followers of Jesus need to stick together. May God bless you all!

Wow! This is a handy thread. My husband's a pastor, and he just got a Kindle, so we'll have to get some of these.

I haven't read these myself, but here's some C. S. Lewis poetry:

And then, amusingly enough, a cover of his with the same stock photo as TWILIGHT which you could give to your tween "by accident":

My own books are beach reads which I'd call too Christian for mainstream publishing and too PG-13 for Christian publishing, but if you don't mind a delinquent teenager talking like a delinquent teenager and some "adult situations," MOURNING BECOMES CASSANDRA is on sale for $2.99 on Kindle. LoveWebRadio chose it as the July 2009 Book of the Month, and Midwest Book Review called it "a fun and highly recommended read that should not be overlooked"!

In addition to the three Christian themed books in my current signature, I am also working on a 13,000 word dramatic Christian conversion story book with plenty of illustrations. That will be cheap too.

I'm excited to be a part of the Kindle family! I don't have the hand-held yet--I'm hoping Santa will think of me this year Smiley Until then, I use the PC app and have already bought too many books. LOL

I just uploaded 6 (soon to be 7) Christian romance novels at Kindle, all for .99 each. I would describe them as sweet and fun.

To take a peek: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=digital-text&field-author=Bonnie%20Blythe

Smashwords has free excepts (40%): http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/BonnieBlythe

And you can check Amazon reviews for my print versions: http://www.amazon.com/Bonnie-Blythe/e/B003IQS6XG/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_5?qid=1286828710&sr=8-5

My bio: Bonnie Blythe is the author of Love’s Unmasking, part of an anthology entitled Masquerade by Barbour. Her other publishing credits include her novel Restorations, which garnered a four star review from Romantic Times Book Club, and Melody’s Knight, winner of the Treble Heart Books Best Novella award 2002. She makes her home outside of Nashville.

My wife and I home school. So we are looking for free children's Christian ebooks for Kindle. Can anyone lead me to one listing or a good source for this? We have searched and can't find anything. I am thinking there must be a lot of public domain books in this subject area. But where?

Hey folks, as we all know, self-promotion outside of the bazaar is not permitted here at Kindleboards. As a new moderator for this board, I've been going through and familiarizing myself with the threads and discussion. I see there has been some self-promotion in this thread.

For whatever reason, this has not been remarked on previously but since we try to be consistent here at Kindleboards, I think that from this point forward, we should all adhere to the rule. It is fine to post your finds in free and bargain priced books - in fact, I encourage you to do so - but if you post about your own book, the post will be removed.

Any questions, Please feel free to send me or any of the moderators a PM. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

If you love Amish fiction, you can't go wrong with "The Choice by Suzanne Woods Fisher". It's currently free on Kindle. And, the ratings are quite good.
