will my kindle update itself?

 My Kindle says its version 2.2.2 and I did see others talking about a new update. Will it  update itself by connecting to whispernet or do I need to do it thru usb and computer ?

from what I've read, if you leave it on overnight and maybe connected to power so it doesn't go flat, it should update... but I also heard something about them doing it in batches, so it might take a while.

 I am in an area that doesn't have  a connection. I just take it to work with me and  connect there. I could connect using the computer  but I can wait. Thanx for the reply

Ok I have 2.2.2 on my K2 right now.....is this the latest? Or is there a newer one?

The current software version is 2.3.  The big changes it provides are native PDF readability and the ability to switch between landscape and portrait orientation.  You can get the update and install it yourself -- check Kindle Support at Amazon. It's really quite easy.  Or just leave it asleep with WN on as often as you can with out killing the battery. . . .it should eventually come down.

Note that if you have installed one of the font or sleep picture non-supported updates (frequently refered to as "hacks"), the Kindle will NOT automatically load the new software version until those updates are removed.

Ann- Thanks for that info- should have known that...duhh . I have no hacks on my K2- so She's in sleep mode now with WN on, and she'll get a new charge tonight. Thanks!
