My k1 is awesome, but there are downsides..
1. Freezes Often! More often than it should.
2.Slllooowww.... They are pretty slow when accesing teh internet, even if all bars are full.
But it is still wonderful and highly reccomended.

If it freezes often. check for the dreaded format...I don't remember what it was it starts with a T.

Mine only freezes when I've gone on a buying spree and it tries to index too much at once. I've learned to keep it plugged in overnight after I've added a lot of content to give it a chance to catch up.

Just experienced my first freeze and suspect the 25 pages of reading material on my SD card is why. Topaz? Format? Could someone explain? |

If you are only on your first freeze, you are doing quite well. Unless it happens frequently, you needn't bother troubleshooting.

At one point my K1, started freezing frequently...every 2-3 days. I had to move my books (to an SD card or PC) and then reinstall the firmware (Kindle CS walked me through it).
That was over a year ago and I've only had it freeze once on my since (and a simple reset fixed it).

Hummph!!  Would you upgrade from an '85 Mustang, just because it needed new spark plugs?? I've had my K1 since October 2008 and while it IS developing some personality quirks, I wouldn't think of trading a perfectly find piece of history just because it's getting old.  |

I've had my K1 since October 2008 and can't say it's getting quirky at all....seems to work exactly the same as when I got it.

Got mine in Dec 2008, and never had a freeze or any other problem. She's still a virgin (never had to do a hard reset) and she looks brand new...with the exception of a slightly flattened corner where my son knocked it onto the floor from the couch. You'd never know she was over a year old.

no issues here since day 1 (got one right after they came out)
I do power it off when im not using it and have not had the need for an sd card ..
