My replacement Kindle arrived last Tuesday (12/29)- I had only gotten to spend 2 short days with my original one, so I was MORE than thrilled when the replacement arrived- and immediately got down to business getting acquainted with my new friend! I had only read 1 book on my original Kindle (The Help), but while waiting for my replacement, I purchased the 8 volume Southern Vampire series and added a few freebies so that I could start reading right away... and boy, did I! LOL Fast forward 7 1/2 days.... finished all 8 books in the series, found out there was a 9th one- bought and read that one, and then decided that I needed to step away from the vampires and supernatural stuff for a little bit. I am now just over 12% through Anna Karenina ( big change from vampires!!), and I still can't get enough of my kindle!!! So in a week, I read 9 new books, started a 10th AND managed to work about 55 hours! My house is a bit of a mess and there's no food in the house, but.....

Welcome to the wonderful world of Kindle addiction! Glad to have you join us. For most of 2009, when I got my Kindle I was sleep deprived. A little better now but not by much. Enjoy!

Locations is the Kindle version of page numbers. I use the page number total included in the book description. Some people use locations, because it is a more accurate record of just how much reading went into a particular book.

Jane, the book count threads are simply how many books we read in that particular month. Some people use pages read, some use locations, some who read both Kindle and DTB, use both. Personally I don't do pages, I do locations. and I dont include books that are under 1000 locations anymore, even though I still read them. it's up to you how you want to keep track, no one is grading you on it, it's just an information thing that started when some lame butt study said that most adults in America did not read much, something like 1 book a year or some such nonsense.

I have noticed some don't even put the pages or locations down, but that doesn't give an accurate count that is made at the end of the month of total stuff read by us more intelligent folks I put down the under 1000 locations read, just because I am copying this list as a record of what I have read, not that it would hurt me to read it again if I don't remember it The locations are the numbers at the bottom of the screen, the total location of the book you are reading is at the right end, and where you are shows in the middle. You will get used to it real fast. Welcome to the Book Count!

Anything that gets you reading is a good thing. Yeah Kindle!!!! My weekly average with a book made of paper is 4-5. I'm now thinking that may go way up with the kindle. Need to keep my slush fund flush for all the books I want.
