How can you tell if your Kindle 2 has the global wireless or not?

Turn the wireless on, then from your Home Screen, press Menu and choose Settings. On the settings page, type 6 1 1 and you'll see a bunch of diagnostic info come up, one of the items on the first page (I think) should say AT&T if you have the International version.

You can also try to log on to your favorite web site (other than Amazon or Wiki). The Global Wireless is very restrictive as to what web sites you can get to (at least up here in Canada).

BTW Jason, great avatar. Love Scott Havarth - almost as much as Jack Reacher (by Lee Child).

That won't work in the US.  Undecided

When did you buy it?  Before a certain date they only sold US (Sprint) Kindles and after a certain date they only sold Global (ATT).  (Exception, the US Kindles were sold as refurbished units after they switched to Global.)

Also, did YOU buy they Kindle?  Go to your order page.  It'll say what the product was called at the time you bought it and you should be able to figure it out from that. Especially if you click it to go back to the original product page.  I just tried that and it still shows the K1 page and then references to newer models.

Thanks for the tips. I tried the 611 and got a blinking screen that did not mention ATT but did mention EVDO. So I guess I have the US version. This is a replacement that I just got because of a broken one so I did not know if they would send me a new global one or an older one. I guess that this is a refurb since they only make the global now as I understand it. One new problem cropped up though, there is ghosting on the screen whereas on my original one I had/have no ghosting. It has not been upgraded yet either so I will see what happens when that occurs. It would have been nice to receive a global one since I plan to travel internationally this year. Oh well. I was happy with the CS response and the resulting replacement.

EVDO is the modem used in the Sprint kindles which are US only.

HSDPA is the modem used in the K2 global wireless models using AT&T.
