Here's the thing, the Kindle shows the PDF page as a full page. . . .but PDF's are mostly formatted for full pages to be 8.5 by 11. Of course, the Kindle screen is. . . . .not that big. . .so the displayed document has tiny font comparatively.
You can change the orientation to landscape and get some level of zoom. Basically it'll show about a half a page of the document on the screen. Whether it's enough for you is the question. If not, then you'll probably have to do as Leslie suggests and convert it.
If it has columns or charts or other special formatting, the results could be problematic -- and you'll pretty much lose that special formatting, so if it's necessary to the document you might be out of luck. Converting will put it in "kindle" format and allow re-sizing of fonts.

Before the 2.3 software update, amazon used to convert the .pdf files to a Kindle compatible format. I really liked this as I could get my files converted and they were much more user-friendly for viewing on the screen. Does anyone know if we can still do this easily if we have 2.3 loaded? I e-mailed my file to my kindle.com e-mail address and it was sent to my kindle via whispernet in the .pdf format. Unfortunately, I am trying to reload a new Kindle after mine had to be returned and this .pdf change (although technically and improvement to the software) is pretty disappointing. Any ideas?

since the 2.3 update you need to put "convert" into the subject line of the e-mail in order for amazon to convert it for you, otherwise, it just sends you back a pdf.

Thanks Lovesangelrn! I had put 'Please Convert' in the subject line of my first e-mail which caused the file to be sent back as a pdf. Guess I was too polite! When I followed your instruction and just put 'Convert,' it worked! I appreciate your help!

As long as I've had a Kindle (since the K2 released) I haven't used the conversion service and I just did and am really impressed at the speed and quality. I have always done it myself with Calibre but this time it gave me a huge file that froze up my Kindle so I decided to give Amazon a try then just used Calibre to adjust the author and title and all that. The only issue is one of the documents is stuck at the end of my reading list no matter what I do with it. Thankfully my DX isn't as full as my K2 or this'd be more of a pain than it is.

Have you checked to see if the time on that Kindle is correct? It may be that WN needs to be turned on briefly to reset the date/time. sometimes when a file has caused my K2 to freeze, the date/time was reset to beginning of OS time (1 Jan 1970).

I have to convert all my PDFs because I just can't see them even with a magnifier. Although I did notice as someone else said that changing the orientation does help some. But I only use the Kindle 2 to read native PDFs when I need to see a diagram or graphic associated with a caption or how to do something with a product. Even though I don't get much use out of it, I am glad Amazon made it available. Now if they would do Word and HTML, then we would be set.

Thank-you Amazon for the Kindle, I am reading print again after being away from it for 15 years because of decreasing vision. I never walk out my front door without my Kindle DXG and Fire, they have been both liberating and life changing for me. Thanks again. Sincerely, Gene

I thought they did do Word. . . . . .but I admit I haven't needed to so haven't specifically checked.
