LiquiVista is a company from the Netherlands that's introducing some interesting display innovations for eReaders. The "electro-wetting" display technology gives a close approximation to the paper-like display of e-ink, with the advantages of having a faster refresh rate, no "flash" when you turn pages, and an ability to support video and animations.

It also has a display (shown in the last few seconds of the video) that supports color displays.

I commented afterwards to Johan about several of these companies being from the Netherlands... and he explained to me that Philips Electronics had a display R&D group in the Netherlands. LiquiVista is one of the companies that splintered off from that R&D group when Philips stopped investing in that area.

looking at this and the other future e-readers makes me think that in the, perhaps, not too distant future, we might have e-textbooks with videos insteads of graphs/diagrams/pictures. and it does sound incredibly exciting yet...!
