A coworker of mine lost his Kindle - he left it in the seat pocket in front of him on the place. WARNING TO ALL - Never put your Kindles in the seat pocket of the plane! Also - He did contact Amazon and de-registered it, they told him that since he lost it they would not re-register it to anyone else (making it a dead unit). I found that interesting because I thought I read here that when others have tried to do that they were told by Amazon that they were not allowed to NOT re-register it to a new owner.

So sorry for your friend. I have heard of this happening at least two other times on here. And you're right, I remember Amazon saying they would not help the person who lost the K. deb

My husband has left many a book in the seatback. So far, not his Kindle, but it is only a matter of time. Personally, I no longer put anything in the seatback, I have read too many horror stories about what kind of garbage people stuff in them.

I don't understand why anyone would put an expensive device like a Kindle in the seat pocket of a plane. It just doesn't make any sense. When I travel with my Kindle if it's not in my hands it's in my bag.
Sorry your friend had to learn a painful lesson. I'd be beside myself if my Kindle were lost or stolen. Hope he is able to buy a new one!

Man, I remember leaving a paperback I was only halfway through reading on a plane and being heartbroken... I can't imagine leaving my Kindle there!

So sorry this happened to your friend. After hearing about some of the horror stories involving traveling on planes with Kindles, I'm just about afraid to take mine on a plane.

Alright, which cover manufacturer is going to own up to this problem and make a wrist tether so you forgetful types won't walk away from your Kindles??

It's a hard lesson...we've left a few things we really wanted in airplane pockets, usually books. After reading things here on KB, I put my Kindle in my big purse every time I wasn't reading it. And check that it's still in there before I leave the plane....

I saw a gadget on a recent podcast that was designed to keep you from forgetting your cellphone. It beeps when you get a certain distance from the device. I can't for the life of me find it again, but sounds like a must have for Kindle travel.

A friend of mine did this very same thing over the weekend. Had it sitting on the seat next to her, then changed seats on the nearly empty plane. Between her losing hers and mine breaking, it wasn't a good weekend for Kindles!

Imagine, you're standing in the aisle, waiting to get off that plane, and you start hearing an electronic beeping from somewhere. I'm thinkin' this could cause a stampede.

Oh sure, until it beeps in mid-flight when you get up to go to the bathroom and you find yourself being tackled by your fellow passengers and the flight being diverted to the nearest airport so you can be hauled off the plane and interrogated for being a possible terrorist. I wouldn't advise anyone to use a device like this on a plane unless you want to risk causing a lot of trouble and end up on the news! Simply using common sense and not being careless is much safer.

Oooh, I need like a dozen of these.... Me too. I'm constantly losing my phone and I never have the ringer on. I had a trial of mobile me and loved the find my phone feature, but I didn't think that one feature was worth the price of it. <sigh> I'm rethink that decision every single time I search for my phone. As for leaving stuff in the back of the seat, I left my return flight plane ticket once. Back before everything was online and they charged me some ridiculous amount to reprint it. I don't put anything in that pocket now.
