Will I be able to read a Kindle while sitting in the sun by the pool? I am thinking of getting a Kindle and was wondering if it will work in that type of situation.

Also, is there plans for the Kindle 3 to come out soon? I would hate to buy the Kindle 2 to find that a new Kindle is about to surface.

Perfectly usable in the sun.  It's really just like reading paper.  The only thing is you might get a little glare if the sun is shining directly on it in such a way to reflect into your eyes.  In fact, I find it easier to read in the sun.  The more light the better with e-ink.  I've heard rumblings about a new Kindle by the end of the year... but the year just started.  It's kind of one of those things that if you keep waiting for a new one to come out you'll never end up getting one.

Yes they are usable in the sun.....no glare etc. A K3 rumor says that it may be out by the end of the year.....but that is JUST a rumor.....not definite.

You can always return your K2 within 30 days if a K3 is announced, and they hold their value pretty well.  If you decide to buy a K3, you can sell your K2 to someone else at not much of a loss.

But if you are going to read by the pool you will want to get a bag of some kind for protection from splashes, etc.

Let us know when you decide to get one and we will be on kindle watch with you.

Its BEAUTIFUL in sunlight!

oh and the comment about "one of those defects".... the poster is referring to some kindle units who's screen faded in direct sunlight.  Amazon has replaced any kindle with the problem.  Fortunately, my K2 did not it.

Enjoy!
