The Moon in Deep Winter
by Lee Polevoi

$0.99
Kindle Edition published 2008-01-10
Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Two large ($44 each), and one small lavender jade bangle($37). The red one is called cinnabar, it used to be made from a stone that had high Mercury content, but now it is laquered resin. It's name comes from the color which matches the old stone bracelets ($11). The one next to it is tea stained jade ($17), Below that are my special buys! two large pearl necklaces one black one white ($9 each), below that is a crystal and pearl 3 strand layered necklace blue crystals and fushia pearls ($27), long strand of peach pearls ($12), and last but not least, malaysian jade heart pendant with matching earrings ($22).

These are a few things I have left from other batches, although I am becoming fond of the tiger and Buddha.

variety of earrings ($7 pair) and tiger's eye bracelets ($8 small $10 large)

Crystal tea set, ($23)

A small teapot, decorative only, silver and ceramic. I have better pictures of the little monkey one top. It is a replica of ones used in the Mink Dynasty. Very Cute ($28) muliti pearl necklace, 3 layers, purple and fushia ($22), Pair of mongolian silver bracelets ($11 each $20 both) small jade knot ($7), blue jade w/dolphin ($17)

Sorry for the poor pic quality, we have entered our rainy season and will most likely see no more than 10 minutes of sun per day for the next two months! Enjoy!

Beautiful items!

In the last picture, that three-strand necklace with the purple  --  what are those white disks?   And I see that the fastener is adjustable, but could  you please tell me the maximum length of that one?  I think I'd like it as a present for a friend, but want to be sure it's right for her.

The white disks are mother of pearl. I think the legnth is between 16-18" I would love to measure, but the kids seem to have made off with my tape and I have no idea where it went!

EDIT: Found the tape! It's actually 17-19 not a huge difference, but more accurate!

Mary Ann - you are killing me!  Haha!  I'd like to know if the "long strand of peach pearls ($12)" and/or the "tiger's eye bracelet ($10 large) are still available?

Mary Ann, I received my package today.  All of the items are really lovely.  I really liked the beautiful laquer egg-shaped box that contained the jewelry I purchased.  The color, quality and weight of the lavender bangle is amazing.  It's way too big for my wrist but I like it nevertheless. I find that I enjoy handling it...so smooth and cool....and will probably use it as a stress reliever/paperweight for my desk. The jade statute was particularly special.  It's already in a place of honor on my office bookshelf.

I got the parcel notice in the mail yesterday and was at the post office at 8am this morning to pick up my package.  Since I took the package to work, all of the ladies in the office enjoyed opening the box with me and trying on the jewelry.  Thank you again for being my personal shopper!

I am soooo glad you enjoyed it all! I got the egg container along with some other items in a "lot" and I figured it would protect the jewelery well and be a neat little extra! I had so much fun picking out items that I thought you would like! The Quan Yin (or Kwan Yin, depending on region and who you ask) is a lovely peice and she was a real bargin! I saw one online going for $1800 last week. The bangles are really special! I was trying to find more info on the lavender jade and I came across a listing for two lavender banges, identical to the one you have, for $2,000!!! And it sold! I have been looking into the jade more since hearing that there are laws being passed to limit the jade coming out of China. I am also looking into buying a whole lot before that happens! The values on the jade I was looking at are incredible. I really thought the "retail" price was inflated, but from what I am seeing...it's fairly acurate! So enjoy and someday it can pay your childern's college tuition!

Ok, everything that was ordered this week is on it's way! Let me know when you get it! I really hope you all enjoy these things as much as I do. It will be at least a few weeks before I go back for more, but I will post again when I do.
