The Moon in Deep Winter
by Lee Polevoi

$0.99
Kindle Edition published 2008-01-10
Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Ok, so lots of jade and pearls! Got it! I will see if they have anything new. They might...last time I was there they were talking about a whole new shipment from China, which usually means lots of jade! It should be to the store by now, so I will see what we can get today! So exciting!
Most people are a medium for the bangles, but they are usually found in the store for between $50-300 depending on color and density. Every once in a while they come up at auction, but they always go for more, around $70 for the nice ones. I do have one here that I love, but it was a special buy for myself and it cost $110. It does have 3 colors of jade in it and it's really lovely. So the mediums are hard to come by and cost more. If some one REALLY REALLY wants one, it might be a good idea to give me a price point. That way if you are willing to go $60 for it, I will keep bidding to get it for you.
I am so excited about going this afternoon! My son has been sick all week, so I am sleep deprived and have been doing nothing but comforting a cranky 2 year old for days!  My husband will be home soon so I can take little bit of a break, and of course, my son is doing a lot better now, so I don't feel bad leaving him at home.
I'm getting all excited just thinking about it!! I will post pics tomorrow and let you all know what I got. I will post tonight to let you know how successful I am at the aution!

BTW, I read all of my PM's and have added your requests to my list. I got a lot so I won't be responding to all of them right now, but I did get them, and I will be looking!

Well, That was fun! Not terribly successful, but fun. I did get some really nice pearls, black, chocolate, and pink. I got a jade necklace with earrings, it looks like my old jade, but it is in a lighter green color. A couple tea stained jade bracelets, Jade chopsticks, and 3 tea sets. No bangles, no statues. I will be going again next weekend to the other store where they will have more jade. And I will post pics and prices tomorrow for the pearls and jade. But just for fun...for $10, sight unseen, I will send a neckace, earring and ring set with pink pearls. First post here asking for it gets it!

Hi Mary Ann!
I would love to know more about the chocolate pearls!  I would be interested in the pink set, but I have
very small fingers (like 3.5 -4 size) so I doubt the ring would fit.. is it gold or silver tone?  Thanks! Kathy

I'm on the lavender bangle train, too! Cheesy I've been watching this thread since it started, and you've picked up so many lovely pieces! I really loved the small lavender bangle that had some etchings on it that you picked up once. I've been kicking myself ever since for not getting it.
I got one of the jade bangles you're describing and I love it.  I can never wear bracelets because of my teeny wrists, and this one is awesome.  The only other bracelet I wear was a gift from my ex-husband on our 20th anniversary that I had to have 4 links removed.

The large was 9 inches and way too big.  Now we'll have to wait to see what MaryAnn comes back with Smiley
I hope you don't mind me sharing this, but I took the offer to re-buy the large lavender bangle since I have fat wrists - and even on mine it is large (but still OK).  So, be careful with the bangles.

Thank you again for waiting until I get out of the hospital (should be this afternoon...maybe) to pay you - you are quite awesome!!

I bought a large lavender jade bangle.  It is beautiful, but I would be open to selling it, because I will not be able to wear it.  I have small wrists though.  Am trying to figure wear to measure to see if the 7 inch would fit.  Do I measure around my knuckles to see if it will go over?  I know I can wear a 71/4 inch bracelet.  But that is with a clasp I think.  Maybe I will go measure a couple of my bangles and see what they are.

I may be interested in buying your bangle.  I have a small wrist - 7 inches but my knuckles are wide and I can't curve my hand to get them in bangles.

What is the measurement of your bangle?  And how much do you want for it?

Yes, I would measure around your knuckles.

Do I measure inside circumference or diameter?

I think the inside diameter would be the most accurate for telling if it would fit over your hand.

Pictures are taking longer than expected. Our internet is slow right now for some reason and they are having trouble uploading. The chocolate pearls are a single strand and I have matching dangle pearl earring with it ($24), I have a long strand of the black/gray pearls as well ($22), I have a jade bead necklace with matching earrings ($19), 5 tea stained jade bracelets (2 Buddha head, 2 round bead, 1 oval bead) ($7 each). I also have 3 tea sets, for those that were asking about them. Porcelain, with bamboo handles. They are all black with colored glaze inside. One is a dusty rose, one is cream, and the other is teal. All are very pretty! ($35 shipped per set)  All prices do include shipping, if you buy a bunch I can probably knock off a buck or two for the shipping. Next weekends trip should be better!
Thanks!

Yay! I'm glad to hear you like it (and secretly jealous Cheesy) and that it fits!
I have really small wrists, too, so that's always something I have to be aware of when buying bracelets and such. The only thing I wear on my wrists right now is a watch, and I've got to wear that with the latch in the closest hole thing ... if that makes any sense. Smiley

I never wore bracelets before now, but I will often wear two or three of my bangles now. They are so simple and stylish and I love them! I really hope they have more next weekend!

Yes, that does make sense.  My ex-father-in-law always put an extra hole in my watch bands so the watch would fit.
