The Moon in Deep Winter

Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

The bags are all claimed! And I have 2 sick kids, so I won't be going this weekend, but...I have a buddy who has promised to pick up as many pearls and jade bangles as she can get! I will report back in a couple days and let you know what we get. I may not be on here much, since I kind of have my hands full, but I am not ignoring anyone, just busy! Things should be back to normal by next week! Thanks!

Pearls are natural and delicate gems, and need proper care...just as a reminder, the pearls should be wiped down with a cleaning cloth after being worn to remove any skin oils, lotions, perfumes, or any other oils that could damage the nacre (the outer layers of the pearl that makes it pretty!). A gem cleaning cloth is best, but even a clean eye glass cloth, or soft cotton wash cloth will do the job. I wipe mine every time they are worn and about once a month I polish all of them!

I'm mortified! I had no idea how to care for my pearls. I've had some for over 30 years and have never washed them! Embarrassed  After reading the above, I got all my pearls out and was shocked at how horrid they looked and felt! I used a damp cloth, then I finally washed with soap and water. I'm absolutely amazed that underneath whatever it was they were coated with were shiny brilliant delicate pearls!

My mom used to string pearls and gave me some strands. In China I bought black lavender pearls. Love pearls. So, while I'm embarrassed that I didn't know how to care for them, I'm glad I finally did and will continue to do so! Thanks!  Embarrassed

Mary Ann, I received the two jade bangles yesterday.  They are beautiful....so much prettier than can be depicted in the pictures.  One I would describe as having a white jade base color with generous splashes of bright green and yellow jade throughout.  The other has a lavender base color with the green and yellow jade splashes.  Both are highly polished, heavy and solid, and smooth and cool to the skin.  I was intending on giving one away and keeping the other.  I will probably just keep both.  Thank you again Smiley

Anyone interested in more pearls or jade?
I had stopped going for a long while, the shipments they were getting in were mostly tourist crap or large items and glass...in other words...not easy or practical to ship. Last weekend I went to see what was going on and to my delight I found some lovely stuff. Pearls, small jade carvings, jade necklaces...

Anyway, If anyone would like to see my loot let me know and I will see about getting pictures tomorrow. I will be opening an online jewelery shop in the next couple months, but the prices will be higher than what I offer here. I love sharing good deals with my friends!

ETA: Payment can be made either with Paypal or Amazon GC.

Oh WOW...!  I wasn't here when all the buying was going on, so I never saw this thread until today!

I would be interested in a simple strand of round black pearls (16-18 inch), or a set with earrings.

I would definitely be interested in a jade bracelet or 2 (medium, or on the slightly smaller side) and a strand of black pearls and/or chocolate pearls!  I had actually been reading through this thread a week or so ago  Smiley

Ok, working on getting the pics up now! Please PM me if you want something, I will post pics with descriptions, and update the listing as items are sold! All jewelery comes in a pouch sent in a padded envelope. I am in Japan so allow time for shipping! Depending on weather conditions and how busy the PO is it can take from 3 days to 2 weeks! What I charge is what I pay plus shipping and packaging.

Ok, I will be right back with pictures!

Oh yay!  More jewelry!  (My checkbook is squealing in panic, though!  hehehe)  How long is the jade necklace, Mary Ann?

I just had on my large black pearls yesterday, and was thinking about you.  They are so, so beautiful.

I got pearls from MaryAnn before, pink, and they are beautiful. The color is amazing. I get compliments every time I wear them.  I also got a beautiful purple jade bracelet. I am very petite and this bracelet fits perfect.
MaryAnn also sent me a tan/yellowish bracelet on a stretchy cord. I wore it today.
MaryAnn has a very good eye.  I can't wait to see what treasures she finds.

The jade necklace is 18" for the inner strand and drapes to about 20" on the outer stand.

Deb, you are a gem! Thanks for the kind words and I am so glad you are enjoying my finds. Makes this all worth it.

I updated what I still have and what's gone...and I will get a pic of The Rats up here in just a sec!

Here it is!

I have two more pics if anyone wants to see more. Th epictures don't really do it justice, there is a subtle lavender and apple green mottling throughout this piece. It's really lovely. The Rat is one of the Zodiac animals. I will have to Google which years it is for!
I will get some measurements in a bit, but this one is $90.

The rats are awesome and make me cringe all at once. I know someone who may like it. I will show them the picture and get back to you if they are interested. Approximate dimensions would be great.

That carving is 3 1/2" high (5 1/2" with stand) and 6" across. There are the 5 rats and a peanut as well as a gold bullion carving. From what I understand of the imagery it is a good fortune talisman, against hard times.

I would LOVE to see some jade bracelets!!!  The statues are adorable, I am a Buddah lover for sure. My boyfriend bought me one when I was pregnant (to symbolize my forthcoming big belly-ha!) and I love it. He makes me smile everytime I rub his belly. =)

I have been looking for bangles, but the ones I have seen lately are not the greatest. The color is less than stunning and some have had fissures, which would crack and break the bangle if you knocked something with it, or if it was a tight fit. The prices have also been higher. Hours are shorter and goodies are limited, so people are going nuts when a nice piece comes out. When the weather warms up a little I should be able to get more nice stuff.

Just a reminder folks, if you are paying with GC's, please use the KB links! If it weren't for them I wouldn't be able to share my finds with you!
And thank you Harvey, for letting me post this here. And to the mods, you are all great!
