Ferne,

There are a number of stickied threads in the Book Bazaar forum right here on KB that list free and cheap books available from amazon.  You can find those lists at the top of the forum here:  http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/board,42.0.html.

Hope this helps!

I check http://booksontheknob.blogspot.com/ frequently for free or cheap ebooks, games, and music and other news.  There are several other blogs I keep up with as well, but I keep coming back to that one for up to date freebies.

I also check Amazon frequently to see what the topsellers are for Kindle.  Usually there are a lot of free books on the list...  You can also sort Kindle books by price to see the free ones.

Other members here post about good buys as well.

I like to use http://www.jungle-search.com/US/kindle.php  This site has picture links to all the current free (non public-domain books) on amazon.  And the newest are usually at the top of the list.

I also use the book bazaar thread here, and recently selected to have the free book sticky send notifications to my e-mail when new posts are made (the moderators are pretty good at making sure that there isn't much chit-chat in that thread, so new posts are generally new books being listed)

I really hate missing out on free books.....can you tell? lol

Just remember that if you see a free book posted you should take a minute and go ahead and get it.  They often jump up in price pretty quick.  I've hesitated on a couple of books and regretted it.

I couldn't say whether Distant Cousin is listed on those free book sites, but it IS listed here: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,14226.msg271469.html#msg271469. I've kept it free for our troops overseas and their families, so why not extend it to my fellow members at Kindle Boards?

Actually, I think I'd prefer that folks download it because they thought it looked promising rather than simply because it was free. It can be quickly checked out here: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,10102.0.html. (The second post from the top contains an overiew of the whole series.)

How do you get Book Bazaar to send an email when new free books are available?

go into the "free book find" thread. within the book baraar... at the top of the screen where next to the reply button is the "notify" button.... click this and you should recieve e-mails when a new post is made to the thread. (FYI,  you can monitor what threads are sending you notifications unders "profile" and "notifications and email"

Just started a Smashwords Bargain Books thread a few days ago over in the Book Bazaar (not one of the stickied threads though).  It mostly has books by Kindleboards authors.  The price range is from Free up to $3.00.
http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,18605.0.html

I use several of the links already mentioned in this thread to find freebies.  There's also a stickied post titled 'Book Lovers' Links' in the Book Corner that has a lot of info about finding books.
http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,1136.0.html

One of the links listed in that post is for the Baen Free Library.  It has a bunch of sci-fi books available for free.

Thank you so much for a quick reply. I really enjoy this whole community. I will be ordering a Kindle before too much longer, I'm waiting for some reward certificates to come in. As of now I think I will go with the Kindle 2 unless they come out with some upgrade. In the meantime I'm gathering as much info as i CAN. I read a lot so I know I'll really enjoy this. I went to the library in a larger city than what I'm in and they let me get a card and now I can check out all the ebooks and audibles I want to. I wouldn't know about this till I read about Overdrive on this community. I'm on a very limited income and this is a fabulous library with all the latest and greatest. Once again I thank each and everyone of you for your patience with those of us who are not so up to date. I'm very computer literate, i built my own computers for years and I was the first one online in this part of my state, before any one knew of such a thing. Of course back then it was bulletein boards. :-)

Just to clarify, you can NOT read library ebooks on your Kindle.  (At least, not without doing things that are against the Terms of Service.)  Not sure about audible. . . . .folks here who like to use their local library for ebooks read them on their computers or have purchased a Sony or other reader for the purpose.
