Books read on Kindle 2010: 10

Okay, so I took a some paper, a really small amount of water (almost nothing) and I cleaned the screen. But a little small part of the screen had a dust grain on it. And I couldn't get it away. So out of old habit I took my nail, gently, gently took it away, and my poor Michelle now suffer from a tiny tiny mark in the screen...I guess it was not a good idea.... Undecided

Do you use screen protection?
How do you clean your screen?
How do you clean the rest of the kindle?
Do some of you have tiny marks in their kindle too? (I'm talking TINY....)

I could see how that could happen.  I am not so OCD, though.  When I put my first skin on I did not clean it first and had a tiny bump from a piece of dirt beneath.  I lived with it.  When I recently put my second skin on, NOT being able to take the first one off without tearing it, I tried to carefully stretch it to fit perfectly.  I did a fine job until the last corner and it crinkled.  I tried to remove that edge, reposition, remove, reposition.....nothing worked!!!!!  I have a crinkle!!!!

Though to be perfectly honest....even without the crinkle, it is still not on perfectly!

Do not make yourself crazy about that tiny, little mark.

Do you use screen protection?
  • Never - go naked or go home! I've seen some really good skins, but I'd rather take my chances than fuzz out the text (with a matte skin) or make the surface glossy (with a glossy one)

How do you clean your screen?

How do you clean the rest of the kindle?
  • Invisible Glass from Walmart (http://www.invisibleglass.com/) and a clean cotton cloth.
  • I'll probably post a teardown at some point for keyboard contact cleaning in case someone spills a coffee or a coke on their Kindle.

Do some of you have tiny marks in their kindle too? (I'm talking TINY....)
  • Yes, but mostly from people trying out the Kindle and thinking that it is a touch screen!

I often use my nails to remove bits of debris. I haven't marked it up yet, but it is inevitable.

As I mentioned in this thread, I like using this cleaning solution for my Kindle (screen and body and buttons, spraying onto a clean cloth rather than directly onto the Kindle). I also use it to clean my notebook PC, plus CDs/DVDs that get smudged or dusty. And I also use it for the main reason I buy it: to clean my LPs.

Thanks guys! Thank you thank you Cheesy

Actually you can just see it if you hold it up to the light and look from the right angle. I have settled down with it now hehe. I guess I am actually quite OCD hehe.

I love her btw!!! I read In Her Name now, and I love that too, so difficult to put down! And I am going to something called Father Heart School this week, and I use the Bible I have bought for her! And many people get really curious, asking what this is! I write down some notes for a lady, telling her about kindle and how to buy it  Grin So cool that so many people are curious, then maybe after a while, more people will acknowledge the e-reader!! We need that in Norway, there are few here... Norway has just started selling these e-readers, in the store, a hundred-and-something books are available. Sad....

But luckily, we have kindle  Grin I wouldn't have exchanged the kindle!!! The only thing I miss is my favorite Norwegian authors, but they aren't available on any site.... The good old classics...

Thanks for tips about cleaning... But how can I buy them being that I am in Norway?

Norway?  By chance, the fellow who works beside me was educated in Norway (Oslo). From the pictures on his desk, it looks beautiful!

Well, I can't personally vouch for how well the Microcare duster works on Kindle screens, but if you would like a can in Norway, here's some contact info:

http://www.cyntech.no/kontakt.html

The product is here:

http://www.cyntech.no/microrens.html

I use a similar product for cleaning excess flux off of PC boards, but they are all based on DuPont's Vertrel solution (http://www2.dupont.com/Vertrel/en_US/vapor_degreasing_methodology.html). I never thought of trying it on my records - maybe I'll give it a try!

Good luck!

That is so cool Cheesy I live around an hour and a half (compending on how fast you drive) outside of Oslo Cheesy It's not in a city though. Lots of trees and farms   Grin

Thank you! It's always difficult I think to find matching Norwegian products. I have never had a screen like the one kindle uses I think before, so it's great with some advice! My computer could really need some cleaning to!

I try to use screen protectors on all my small gear (phone, ipod, etc.) but I haven't seen sheets big enough for a Kindle.
