Probably best to fully charge it, which may take a few hours.  But I think you can use it while still plugged in after probably a half hour . . . .is there a suggestion in the Users Guide?

It has to have a minimum charge before it will reboot. I would agree that at minimum, let it charge a half-hour before messing with it. Three to four hours would be better. Hopefully you have plugged it into the wall and not the USB port, it will charge faster that way.

Have tried this and it is still stuck at the same place in the loading barr. When i try and reboot it only loads up to that point, a third of the way up then it stops. Has been charging for more than 4 hours now

Did you attempt any hacks on it?

beanie, I'd say it's time to contact Kindle customer service.  Try the "call me back" feature. . . .works great. . . .betcha they can walk you through a fix or will send you out a new one. . . .
