How do I play music on kindle? Do it just read mp3 files or can I use cd's too?

Has someone out of America used this? Is it available to us?

You can load mp3 files onto your Kindle and listen to them.
I'm in the USA, but I'm pretty sure the international version is the same as the K2.

Kindle can play files in MP3 or Audible format.

The process of getting the files to play differ depending on the file you're using.  If you've purchased an Audible book, you will transfer the file to your Kindle using the Audible manager.

For MP3s, make sure the file is indeed an MP3!  Connect your Kindle to your computer with the USB cord provided.  Now copy the MP3 over into the Music folder that is already on the Kindle.

The MP3 should now be on your Kindle.  To play it, click the Menu button en select "Experimental".  Select "Play MP3".

To play Audible files, you will be able to select the audiobook from your home page, so that is different to the MP3 playback.  Also, you can do other things on the Kindle while listening to MP3s, it is background music, but for Audible audiobooks, you can't read and listen.

This feature is available to international Kindlers as well, yes.  The Kindle doesn't have a CD slot, so the only way to play a CD on it is to "rip" the tracks and convert them to MP3 files.

You can rip CDs to MP3 format and load them on a Kindle.  However, you should be aware that playback is quite rudimentary.  Tracks are played in the order they are loaded and there are no options for selecting, rewinding, and so forth.  If you just want some background music while reading it would work well enough, but don't expect the Kindle to replace an MP3 player or CD player.  It is designed for reading and is not meant to be a multipurpose device.

It depends on what you want to convert.  You google for "Convert (x.format) to MP3", x.format being the format your file is in before conversion.  Download one of the dozens of freeware applications available and convert your file.

For example, searching for "Convert WMA to MP3" leads you to "Free WMA to MP3 Converter" software.  I guess that's a long way of saying "Google it" Smiley

And how do I convert them?

If you have a PC you probably have Windows Media Player.  Open Windows Media Player, click on Rip which gives you a drop down menu, click on Format which gives you another drop down menu, click on MP3.  Follow the directions for ripping.  You will then have files that you can drag and drop to your Kindle's Music folder, as someone else has already described for you.

If you have a Mac someone else will have to tell you what to do because I am clueless about Macs.  Or you can Google, as has also been suggested.
