Hi everyone -- it's taken me a bit to introduce myself but here I am! I got my Kindle a little over a week ago and it already has become omnipresent in my life. Scary but true. The tiny size tucks in my purse, gymbag, under my arm, inside my jacket...you name it. The skinniness is what makes that possible -- because obviously, one could do the same with a paperback. Last fall, I heard a lecture on emerging technologies by Paul Saffo ( www.saffo.com) who referenced the Kindle as one of the most important technologies to arrive on the scene. Revolutionary to the written word, like the iPod has been to music. It peaked my interest and when the Kindle2 was available again this spring, I jumped at it. Thanks for having this board available for sharing!

I bought my Kindle a week ago, and I'm absolutely in love with it.
In some ways, I like reading on it even more than books even though I was concerned I'd miss the feel of a book.
As I'm sure Amazon hoped would happen, I've gone to thinking of Amazon as just another company I occasionally patron to one of my favorite businesses.

Supposedly this podcast talks about Kindle 3 rumors. I haven't listened to it yet: http://www.thekindlechronicles.com/2009/03/06/33-eric-collins/L

Hi, ya'all
I am new to the Kindle community and am amazed at this Website. I can hardly wait to be welcomed here. I recently received my Kindle 2 and have already named it (don't you name your favorite things?) but I realize there is much I don't know. The first thing I don't know I read here on this site. What is an Avitar? I don't think it has anything to do with the Kindle. Also, I noticed some - Gator, for instance, has a picture beside his posts. How do you get something like that? So, here I am - I hope I am welcome - please be patient with my questions. I am a living example that an OLD DOG CAN LEARN ANYTHING.

Welcome Sunshine. An avitar is the picture under your name. You can go to your profile page and add a picture there. Click on the Profile at on the bar on top right under the Heading. Once you do that on the left you will see some options to personalise your name and avitar. On the left you will see Modify profile and under that Forum Profile information. Once you click on that there is an option that say I will upload my own picture. You can then add a picture that you have saved on your computer. You will now have an Avitar of your own. That picture you were asking about is the Avitar. Asks question here. We don't mind answering. There is also a section on the board that says Introductions and Welcomes. You can go there and introduce yourself. If you need more help feel free to ask.

Welcome Sunshine! I had never heard of an avatar until I came here. Google free avatars and they have anything you want. There are no stupid questions here so feel free to ask anything. There are video tutorials, how to add avatars and other tips. Take you time and browse the boards, you'll be surprised at how quick you will learn to navigate. I've been here six months and am still asking and still learning. Glad you are here! There are many good folks on KB and we have fun. Book klubs, contests and giveaways. We started an Easter Egg Hunt today.
