I was playing with the preferences and deal-breakers everyone has given so far. Ya know I'm a bit of a spreadsheet/number crunching geek so I spent an enjoyable morning grouping us together by genres to see what we do and don't like .... There are 24 of us so far and it looks like we all like the same things except for the things we have differing opinions on. Some of the stuff on here I grouped together even though they're really quite different - like fluffy romances, paranormal romances, m/m romances and romances are all romances ... .... Its my number crunching, so it's my rules. | Genre | Yes, Please | No Thank You | | History | 5 | 1 | | Historical Fiction | 8 | 0 | | Science Fiction | 8 | 7 | | Fantasy | 8 | 1 | | Mystery/Thrillers | 13 | 0 | | Romance | 7 | 9 | | Horror | 6 | 8 | | Religious | 3 | 14 | | Political | 0 | 12 | | Other Fiction | 6 | 0 | | Non-Fiction | 6 | 6 |
Sorting us out and matching us up so we're not diametrically opposed or in complete agreement with our preferences is going to be another entertaining time for me.

I hope you pick someone for me who will give me a gem of a suggestion, because I'm having a bad time lately finding anything to read. I've started about 4 or 5 novels and a couple samples in the last 2 weeks and have not finished any of them. (I did finish Stephen King's On Writing, though.) I can't decide if I'm getting too picky or if I'm just not finding the right stuff for me (or some of each?).

OK, I'm in again and this time I'm not giving guidelines. I'm open to anything and hope to be pushed in a new direction.

Coolness. I thought about doing that, but I'm just not as brave as thee. Hmm...I thought the purpose here was to make us read something outside of our "comfort zone." If we don't know what your zone is, how can we target something outside of it?

There is that. But going with the assumption that our sem is truly eclectic and doesn't have strong preferences, there is still the chance of being saddled with reading an extended treatise on the airspeed velocity of an unladen African swallow ...
Akagriff also didn't list any preferred genres last month or this month, so I just went with it ....

That is why I kept my comfort zone list down to six and only two items in the deal breaker list. Wait, does "an extended treatise on the airspeed velocity of an unladen African swallow" fall into the category of "Scientific Nonfiction"? ( Since I listed "Historical" as a comfort zone category, does that mean I should not expect a book on the Spanish Inquisition?) I also did not list some deal breakers as I would not expect the other deal breakers (boring, pointless, poorly written books) to qualify under the game guideline : 2. Pick a book you love and adore, is outside your person's usual genres, is not a Deal breaker,

I've been playing with a spreadsheet list of all of us for a few days now ... its like one big logic puzzle and I'm kinda loving it (which probably explains why I'm a business and data analyst by trade ... )

Excellent.... sounds like this is a perfect side "job" for you! Will be interesting to see if there will be a sudden influx of participants closer to the deadline...... maybe some of those who are wavering will decide to take the plunge.

Happy Thursday everybody! Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for the March game. At the moment, there are 29 of us playing. If you're supposed to be on the list and aren't, please let me know. I don't think I skipped anyone but I dunt want to leave anyone in the dust. If you still want to play, there is plenty of time to sign up; I haven't completed any assignments between book selectors and selectees ... | akagriff | Geemont | Margaret | | Annalog | geko29 | NogDog | | Basilius | Geoffrey | Ottie | | Belindach | Hoosiermama | RiddleMeThis | | Bernie | imallbs | sem | | Cora | jaspertyler | Susan in VA | | Dana | KindleGirl | Thalia the Muse | | DoubleDog | Leslie | Tripp | | dpinmd | luvmy4brats | welshcorgi | | eldereno | luvmyBOB |

It was choosing a book for someone else that prevented me from signing up in February. For March, I decided that choosing a book for someone else was where I would be stretching the boundaries of my comfort zone.
