Hello, everyone.

I'd like to survey Kindle readers as to the font size they currently have selected, assuming it's still where it was when you read your last book. In other words, I'm looking for the font size that most readers have chosen.

The Kindle 2 (don't have the original, so I don't know if it's even different) has six sizes. For this survey, we'll say 1=smallest (on the left), and 6=largest (on the right). Hit that AA button and tell me where you're at.

From this I'm hoping to find an average, so that I may engineer a more artfully crafted (typography wise) edition in PDF format (which the Kindle 2 can read) that when viewed approximates the font size that is typically used for a conventional, re-flowing ebook format like azw (prc, mobi).

I thank you all in advance for your input. When I'm done, I may award those participating with something to view, so that I may find out if my idea works, and how well it does or doesn't. Thanks again.

-William

The original Kindle also has 6 sizes (though I thought there was some discussion when the K2 came out about there being some difference in that, or am I thinking about the line spacing thing?)

In response to your survey, mine is on 2

3 for books that are indented, 2 for books that have two returns between paragraphs (IE: the ones I made out of web pages).

The vast majority end up being 3s.

I -can- use size one, but ever since I got the DX I've felt more comfortable around 3 or 4.  If I'm walking I'll go even larger so that it's easier for my eyes to follow the moving text.  Does that mean I'm getting old? <whine>  I find the font size can change drastically between formats though, so it varies book to book.

I use 4, which makes it sound like I have bad eyes in comparison to you guys! I just prefer the text larger, even if I can read a smaller size.

It seems to me that 1-3 are pretty close and then there's a big jump to 4, which is a little on the large side for me. I think 3.5 would be ideal for me, but I'd rather err on the side of being a little easier on my eyes. I guess I don't mind turning pages a little more often.

1, thanks to reading glasses. But I use larger sizes with bad lighting or when I don't want to use reading glasses.

I usually read with a size 2 font.  Sometimes if my eyes get tired in the evening, I will switch up to a three.

I'm with David. Always #4, though I could read the smaller print. I also increase my browser's font size on the PC significantly (or use the Readability tool). I can just read longer that way.

I have a very strong myopic prescription. Sans glasses, I cannot read size 6 from 1 foot.

2 . . . with no hacks.

Had the hack for a while with Georgia and then I used 1 on the DX

I wear glasses for reading and likely would even on 6 but I prefer the smallest font I can read comfortably.

Mine's always set at 1 - and I'm 44 ....

I only wear glasses to see - I'm incredibly near-sighted but my eye doc said it's too early to start discussing bi-focals, etc. as my eyes haven't really gone through the Change yet and I would just hate them if I got 'em before needing 'em.

I sometimes notice it's easier to read with my glasses on than with my contacts (usually after an especially tiring day at work) but I normally I have no problems with the smaller font sizes.... yet.
