I went through the threads as I didn't want to repeat but does anyone know how to put "folders" on the kindle to organize my books.  I tend to read series and re-read them so I don't want to "delete" them just yet but want to be able to see quickly the authors and books.  does that make sense and sorry if everyone has already talked about this.

Thanks for the input.

Welcome to Kindleboards, Micky.

Well that is probably the biggest sticking point.. WE WANT FOLDERS for organization and we don't have them, yet.

It makes SO much sense; don't think you will find anything but agreement on that statement.

Folders are definitely the most wished-for software update for the Kindle, and Amazon has said they are coming, just not when....

Betsy

Actually Amazon did NOT say folders were coming. What they said was a better way of organizing will be delivered. That could be folders, better tags, or something else.

I heard that too.  I'm just anxious to know whether that solution will be made available to K1 owners.

Using a front-end product like Calibre seems to help me - that and a combination of tags for sorting and searching.  Calibre offers a tool to edit the metadata.  But yes, folders would be great.

Unfortunately not - we're in the same boat. K1 owners have been abandoned and I don't think they're putting out any more updates to it. One of the disadvantages of being an early adopter. :>(

Technically speaking there are some folders...news for newspapers, books for books, personal for pdf's

has there been any attempts to put folders within folders?

I guess the only recourse is to rename things so at least there's somewhat of an order.

Amazon knows about this folder issue.  HOpefully they will address this in next Kindle.  We all need it.

My understanding is that you can put folders within folders while the Kindle is attached to your PC.  Unfortunately, they will not show on your home page and to my perspective that's not at all helpful.

I finally gave in and tagged all my unread books so I could at least separate those.  I still need to do something about series and genre tags though.

Has that been officially stated by Amazon has it or is it speculation?

I remember a quote from an Amazon official to that effect on the Kindle Chronicles.

Amazon stated (a while ago  Angry) that organization is forthcoming, but so far--and as you've noted--we've gotten bupkus.

Fuzzy Dunlop,

I believe it's in Calibre only and does not transfer to the Kindle, but let's wait to hear from one of the more experienced folks  Smiley

Screw that, I'm not buying a new Kindle, I just got this one!  There'd better be something for the K2!

Calibre only organizes books on the Mac or Windows (or Linux).

I thought I read...somewhere...probably the Amazon forum, that the update for organisation would be for all kindle models.

Just on your computer as far as I know - but I guess a little organzing is better than none - for now anyway - until something better comes along.

You can use the "tags" to sort the titles and you can edit the tags in Calibre.
