Wait MAY not be as bad as you think.
I ordered on Thurs and got mine on Mon - with Standard Shipping.
That's just one step above the Free Shipping which I thought might take TOO long.
Amazon's first delivery estimate was for THURSDAY, but I got mine on MONDAY - 4 DAYS EARLY!!!

Then downloaded 6 books the first day - but I already knew which ones I was going to get and 4 of them were free.

Or try and give yourself a chance to be pleasantly surprised. Shipping can be fast if you prepare for the worst.

Welcome to the club!  Your wait will be over before you know it.  You'll feel even more anxious when you have it in your possession and you have to wait for it to charge!   Grin

ok, so head on down to the Photo Forum, and find yourself some screensavers, There are TONS of threads on screensavers, so it will take a couple days to go through all of them. Then, you will need to find a cover... and a light...And if you need any further enabling, well, in the Not Quite Kindle forum you can peruse coffee, tea, rice makers, crockpots, vacuums (I think), waffle makers, crepe makers, and all sorts of other goodies. and everyone here on KB will be glad to hold your (metaphorical) hands while you wait on KINDLEWATCH!

I did the free shipping...  Did I mention I am an accountant...so I a FRUGLE!  When I ordered my BIL's Kindle (my sister surprised him for Christmas) it only took 3 days for it to come, so I am hoping to be that lucky again!  I already have 4 books, all free.  I think I want True Compass as well, Kennedy's Memoir.  I am already addicted and I don't have it yet!  And thanks to Pari my Oberon cover is on it's way!  They might even arrive the same day!!  Grin

I hate waiting too, pugmom--but once you have your Kindle you'll be waiting a whole lot less. Whispernet is speedy quick.  Cheesy

Let us know when it arrives!

I ordered mine Friday and couldn't stand the thought of not having it for the weekend, so I paid for Saturday shipping. I've wasted $20 more than once in my life on all kinds of crap, but the $20 I paid for overnight was worth every penny! I bought a plain black leather cover so I'd have it in the same package. I have since ordered an M-Edge Prodigy in Fuschia with the e-light and they arrive this Friday. I'll probably return the black cover to Amazon.

I LOVE my kindle. I was a book purist but after spending a week comparing e-reading devices I had to have the kindle! Did I mention I love it?  I've also spent some time downloading free MP3 files from Amazon which I transferred via USB to play as background music while I read. Sure beats taking the extra time to convert my itunes songs into MP3's and transferring them. If I didn't say it earlier, I love my kindle!
