I was an avid reader years ago, then got out of the habit with kids, work, internet, etc. Now I'm back to being an avid reader. So my answer would have been that Kindle has turned me BACK into an avid reader.
This is me as well. I read like crazy when I was younger, but in the decade prior to the arrival of my K1, I read maybe 2 books for pleasure total. Which is not to say I didn't read at all, as I blew through nearly 20k pages of technical books over the course of a year when I was avidly pursuing certifications. Just that I never stopped and took the time to read a novel or "traditional" nonfiction. Now despite having very little time to read (pretty much 20 minutes at breakfast and 60 at lunch, M-F, with occasional time stolen here and there otherwise), I've read 75 books since getting my Kindle in October of 2008. Kind of pales in comparison to many others here, but I literally have NO free time--between both my wife and I working more than full time, her going to school full time (and sometimes needing my help) and raising a toddler, reading time at home is at a bare minimum (and I probably get through 2 or 3 episodes of TV in a month at best.

).
So bottom line, Kindle has resurrected a long-dead reader.
