So my kindle froze last week and i was forced to to a hard restart, when it came to it forgot how to remember it's indexing.  So, it's probably tried to index my 475 items 15-20 times, which is killing the battery. ;<

Called amazon and described the situation and with out even asking a question said they were sending me a new kindle.  I love that Amazon CS doesn't assume you grew up under a rock and know nothing about their product.   The only bad thing is I'll need to buy a new skin.

I keep hearing that Amazon has great customer service.  I haven't had to find out.  Kindle is my first product category that I haven't had a ton of issues.  I have had dozens of phones and pdas and a number of laptops.  But in over a year no new kindles.

One of the nurses at the cancer center this morning was looking at my Kindle.
She bought a Nook and is not happy.  She has had problems with downloading books.  Several pages will be left out.  She can download the book to her computer, but then she has to read those pages on her computer and not her Nook.
She's called B&N CS and they have yet to help her fix the problem.
She said she regrets not getting the Kindle.  I explained how wonderful Amazon CS is, and that clinched it for her.

So glad your situation worked out good.

@drenee - Couldn't she transfer it from the computer to the nook?

I asked that question and she said it would not work that way, the pages were still  not there on the Nook even though they are there on the computer.

Tell her to try changing the font size. This often reformats the book so that the rest of the text appears.

I wouldn't want to charge Amazon for something I chose to put on after purchase.  I'll probably stretch out the skin, plus its scraped up and I'd like a matte one this time. (all excuses I know, but I want a new one. Cheesy)

Ha, ha, I understand.  And the matte finish is definitely better than the glossy.

My diagnosis: you subconsciously screwed up your Kindle to get a new skin.  Grin just kidding.

I called friday morning and today, monday, the new DX arrived.  It's strange seen a DX naked.  The screen is slightly darker than my old one, not bad but interesting to see.

I wonder if they make a rubber skin -- like the skin you can put over a Wii wand (for those of you familiar with that item).  I love the kindle, and the small form factor is great - but  I'm always worried that it's going to slip out of grasp, or my notebook, or my backpack just when I'm over bear concrete and it will shatter into pieces.

A think stretchy translucent skin with a rubberized texture for added grip would be ideal -- and thinking of the Wii Wand - a reinforced gromet with a wrist strap would provide heaps of protection.  If anyone knows of such a product I'd love to hear from you.

My DX just died on me last night.  The screen went completely bonkers, no resetting would work.  I'll have a new one tomorrow.

I dropped my K2 at the doctor's office today.  I had been proud of myself by keeping it in the case, too.  I was really bummed out.  I called Amazon CS and they are sending me a replacement to arrive tomorrow.  They will send a return shipping lable for me to send the old one back.  The guy I spoke with didn't hesitate at all.  Since it was my fault, I just assumed that I would have to pay for the repair.  Nope!  This is really excellent customer service.  I think that Amazon is very smart in handling things this way.  From what I'm reading, other ereader suppliers are not.

Actually, I have dropped it before but always on the carpet.  This time the top piece popped off in the back.  I thought that I could just pop it back in place and it would be okay, but it wasn't.  Although I really like not having it in a case, I'm wondering about getting one of those book type cases.  Seems that there is one that folks like really well.  Guess I'll have to do some research.

THANK YOU AMAZON FOR SUCH GREAT SUPPORT!!!

kamuu, I've known Amazon to reimburse people for their skins.

I was reimbursed by Amazon for two skins during what I call "the dark time" when I had to have many K2 replacements because of the sun fade issue.  I didn't even ask for it.  I just happened to mention the skin during one of my CS calls and they told me they were reimbursing me.
