My Kindle 2 came today and I couldn't be happier!  It is very easy to use.  I already LOVE it.
Is there anything I *need* to know to get the most out of my Kindle?   Grin

First - Kongratulations!!  You have started on a wonderful journey of Kindle ownership.  I guess my best advice would be to try to carve a little time out from your reading to spend here on KindleBoards.  I have learned more by reading and participating in discussions here than I ever imagined.  And, this has greatly enhanced my enjoyment of my Kindle.  Being able to talk with others about your love of your Kindle and your love of reading is so fun.  And, Harvey and the Mods do a great job at keeping this a respectful, totally enjoyable place to be.
If you are so inclined, we have plenty of "enablers" in the Accessories discussions who will tell you about their favorite skins, lights, covers, purses etc.  The discussions on free books and bargain books that are available will give you a chance to build up your "library" without having to spend a lot of money.  And, there are book clubs/discussions that you can join if you'd like.  So... this site has LOTS going on all the time and we're so glad that you're here with us!!  Welcome!!!!

Greetings and Welcome, blssdmumof2!! We are so glad you found KindleBoards! We have many areas that you probably will like. Have you been to The Book Corner yet?  That's the area for discussions about books (naturally Cheesy ). That's also where you will find threads about books Recommended by our Members and a list of additional sites for Book Lovers.
Then there is the Book Bazaar where our member/authors post about their books and hold discussions about writing, publishing and many other topics. That is also where you will locate Bargain Books and even Free Books threads where you can get reading material at low or no cost! Here is a link to get you started: Master list of free & under $1 titles available from Amazon.
If you have a question about your Kindle or it's usage, check out the FAQ or the forum about Tips, Tricks and Trouble Shooting . Or, just ask your question. We have many helpful and knowledgeable people here at KB  and we feel there is no such thing as a "dumb" question. Questions about KindleBoards may be answered at Your guide to Forum Speak! linked from Forum tips. If not, once again, ask away! To keep everything running smoothly, we ask that everyone read Forum decorum.
Another popular place is Let's Talk Kindle, where all things in the Kindle world are posted about. Be sure and check out the Photo Gallery, where pictures of members, pets, flowers, landscapes or just almost anything interesting can be found.
Have you been to the Accessories area? There you will see information about covers, skins, lights, bags, stands and many other items to allow you to personalize your Kindle.
Looking to just kill some time while you are waiting for your Kindle or if you have your kindle, want to try something different? Try INFINITY Game - Word Association or The "INFINITY" Thread: KEEP POSTING...Ready, Set,... GO!!! in the Not Quite Kindle area.
Sorry for the long post, but there is just so much to do, learn and like about KindleBoards that I just get carried away. Smiley

Really, there isn't anything you *NEED* to know to enjoy your Kindle. I would definitely say don't forget about the free samples you can get for e-books. it's a great way to check out a book and see if you like it before spending the money on it. And there are a LOT of free books or very cheap books available to quickly build a high quality library of books. Things like cases and lights and skins are all subjective. I have mine in a case and have a light for reading at night without disturbing my wife, but I don't want a skin on mine. other people love skins. it's all in what makes you happy.

"The novelty wears off" ?  I've had my Kindle for over a year-and-a-half now and the joy of it has not lessened one iota.  If anything.... I think I appreciate it more every time I use it...... which is daily... usually for 3 - 4 hrs each day.  I honestly think that the novelty will never wear off for me.  I LOVE to read and the Kindle is so much easier on my eyes than DTBs so I'm able to read much longer with no eyestrain or headaches.

Congratulations.  Besides what the others have said, you also need to know that you can ask any questions here and someone will always try to answer.
Enjoy your K.

The other features are cool as well - it plays MP3 files, and can do "text to speech" for most books - it will also take RSS feeds so you can download daily headlines.  I'd also recommend Calibre on your computer to help keep it all organized - Calibre also translates different formats for you.

Enjoy!
