Today I noticed a new bin file in the root directory of my Kindle 2 Global (NOT the DX), so I went ahead and did an update, and sure enough, the version number is now 2.3.4. I have no idea what the changes are, I just wanted to post this right away so others could see if their Kindle has updated.
Anyone else noticed?
Now, time to research and see what changes were made...

If I'm not mistaken this update came out a little while ago, but again everyone is getting it at a different time. I'm on DX full time now, not sure what this one does to k2.

The update we were getting recently was 2.3.3 and then last week the DX's were getting 2.3.4. This is the first I've heard about 2.3.4 for K2.

My k2i tried to update to this today but because I have the hacks installed, when it tried to update it failed. It started to update as soon as I turned on whispernet.

Hmmm... I didn't even notice when mine updated, but it did. For 2.3.3 I had to update manually......

Version 2.3.4 thread here.I first noticed my K2i was updated to 2.3.4 on 25 February. Although plenty of people have reported getting the new update, there are no release notes available from Amazon yet.

Since I have a K2i wit version 2.3, I wasn't really thinking about updates until I read this thread. I'm a real newbie to all of this, so reading about bin files and root directories confused me. My guess is that I would be able to see this stuff if I connect to my PC. Anyway, when I go to settings on my Kindle, it says version 2.3 I don't see 2.3.3 or 2.3.4...some people seem to be saying that their updates have been automatic. Once the update takes place, would my Kindle say 2.3.4 someplace or will it just continue to say 2.3

I turned on my Whispernet a few days ago and left it on to see if anything would come through. It didn't. I have the original K2 and manually downloaded 2.3.3.
Update: Tried it again and still nothing. Must be an international version update.

I'll just repeat the procedure for doing a manual update for any others who may be wondering. You can download the latest update directly from the Amazon Kindle Software Updates page. Select the correct update for your model Kindle and download the file to your computer. Transfer the downloaded file to your Kindle via the USB cable. Place it in the Kindle's root directory (not in any of the folders). Disconnect the USB cable. From the Kindle's Home page, click Menu, select Settings, then click Menu again. Select "Update Your Kindle". Note that the latest update available from Amazon is 2.3.3. The 2.3.4 update is so shrouded in mystery, Amazon's customer service doesn't even know about it yet.

Where can I go on my Kindle 2 Global to see if I have Version 2.3.3? When going into my Settings, I can see that I have Version 2.3 but there are no notations beyond that...hey, for all I know, I may already have 2.3.4...thanks!

On the Settings page, it would say Version: Kindle 2.3.3 (some more numbers) in the lower right corner of the screen. If you see Version 2.3 then that is the version you have, not version 2.3.3 or 2.3.4.

After I read this I turned on Wireless and within 5 minutes, I noticed it downloaded the update. I have a Kindle 2 global. I can't find out what the update is for. I went to the amazon update site but it isn't even listed. Anyone find out yet?

FANtastic -- thanks very much for that link -- I just discovered that I can set the orientation to landscape! Guess we will just have to keep an eye on that update page for any news about 2.3.4 -- I'm still on 2.3.3 (manually updated). - Tbb

I took my font hack off my k2i today, turned on wireless, did sync and check for new items. When I went back to settings it still said 2.3.3, but the "update your kindle" was darkened so I selected that. My kindle updated to 2.3.4.

I've been waiting for the 2.3.3 update for almost a month, so just to let you know that you are not alone. If I am brave , this weekend I'll do a manuel update. I did it once before, but needed CS to walk me thru it.

Toby, many people are getting the 2.3.4 update which is the one after 2.3.3 You may not receive it now unless you do it manually as they are already sending out the next update.

Toby, it appears to be only the international models and the DX (that's only international, right?) that are getting 2.3.4. So manually upgrading to 2.3.3 is probably best.

Well, I just did the manual update on my K2 USA version. I had trouble at 1st when it said this file was too big for your browser to download. Then it gave me choices. Since I am on AOL, I clicked that icon. Then I saw a flash of a download, like a flash of a black line, but the instructions said to watch the bar to make sure the file was completely downloaded. No bar. No one mentioned how long it takes to download the update to the computer. I saw this circle twirling on the update page. I didn't know if that was it or not, so I waited over 20 min's. I then was able to do the update successfully. Can anyone tell me about how long it takes to manually download the file to their computer? I put the wireless back on to wait for the 2.3.4 update, but then decided to put it off. I am confused. I don't know if the update is for the K2 USA version. I wondering if it's for the KDX USA & Globle & the K2 Globle? If someone has the K2 USA version & got the 2.3.4 update, would you let us know? Thanks to everyone for their update help & advice !! I'm so happy to have the 2.3.3 update after waiting a month & not getting it.

I'm not too worried if I get the 2.3.4 update or not at this point. If I hear of others getting the update on their US K2, then I'll go back to leaving on my whispernet & charging when not using.

I have a K2i and the screensaver hack. Mine's on 2.3.3 (manual update a few weeks back). I never leave my wireless on. So the question is... do I remove the screensaver hack and turn on wireless for a while and see what happens...? But what about the screensaver hack... can I put it on... will it work with 2.3.4...? Oh the worries LOL! Any advice please...?

My k2i started to update one morning when I turned the wireless on but gave the failed message because I have the hacks installed. I quickly uninstalled everything but it seems the moment of receiving the update has passed. I presume the hacks will work with 2.3.4 but perhaps the only people who have received it are the ones who haven't installed the hacks, so that is just a guess.

I had the font hack on and it tried to update like yours, I got the failure message, when I unintalled the hacks I restarted my kindle. Then I turned on wireless, did a check for new items. And then within 5 minutes got the update over whispernet. Then I put the font hack back on.

Can you tell me what the 2.3.4 update does? Are the changes/improvements significant? I currently have 2.3.3 on my Kindle 2i. Is it worth the trouble to uninstall-reinstall the screensaver hack? Sorry if this question has already been answered. Judith

I haven't "gone exploring" my kindle since the 2.3.4 got on it to see if there are any techno changes. But, I don't notice any difference at all when I use. Can't tell anything has changed.

Can you tell me what the 2.3.4 update does? That's what makes this update so strange. Normally software updates are accompanied by release notes, detailing every change made since the previous version. With 2.3.4, Amazon hasn't released anything, not even a "release notes to follow" notice; their Customer Support staff aren't even aware of the update...it's a phantom update. Very mysterious
