plus if Apple locks Kindle out of the iPad....you can use one of the apps that let you teleoperate your mac to read Kindle for Mac on your iPad
They won't do that. Apple's iBooks app doesn't even come with iPad - you have to download it from the App Store. But Amazon needs to get a Kindle for iPad app out soon, and it needs to be as good as the iBooks app. The Kindle for iPhone app should 'work' but it will waste the large screen.

Sure wish there was Search, though. And TTS (since OSX has this available).

I downloaded the app last night, and was pretty disappointed considering this has been 'Coming Soon' for about 4 months. I know I can read notes I've already added, but I would only really read on the computer if I could also add notes, it would be much easier on a traditional keyboard instead of my DX's so-called version. I do think that Amazon will have an improved version of their iPhone app for the new iPad, but if they don't show me some improvements in their software on all devices (including title organization) soon, I might be ready to give up on the platform. The hardware and software are basically two years old, which is an eon in the technology world.

I was glad to wake up to the email this morning announcing Kindle for Mac. Amazon is appealing to the customer base they already have established and have won points, IMHO, by going ahead with the Mac app in the face of the iPad release. I'll stick with Amazon out of a sense of loyalty when my iPad is delivered. If the Kindle for iPhone works on the iPad, I will probably install it for occasions when my book light would annoy someone. Kudos to Amazon.

I've ordered an iPad (c'mon, Apr 3!) but I'll stick with my Kindle for most reading not due to loyalty to Amazon, though I have that, but because the Kindle is lighter, eInk is easier on the eyes, can be read in bright sunlight (don't know how the iPad will do but suspect it won't be great), and the battery lasts me two weeks instead of 10 days. But yes, Kudos to Amazon. I will be installing Kindle for iPad when it becomes available (and Kindle for iPhone when I get the iPad). Betsy

Betsy, at least yours will be here Apr 3rd. I'm getting the 3G model and have to wait until the end of the month *waaa, sob, sniffle*
Back on topic. I think we have the best of all worlds...Kindle in the purse, iPad to switch between reading and web surfing/email while on the go, and on the computer when we are home. I'm already reading more since my receiving my Kindle and can't imagine how it will be after the end of April, lol.

downloaded yesterday - and am enjoying it - the only thing is wish is that I could do notes on the Mac version - I agree that it would be so much easier to make notes using my keyboard - I was quite used to reading on my laptop before Kindle so that doesn't bother me - and I like having another way to read my Kindle books or some of the books I refer to all the time ... so my Kindle can stay in the bedroom unless I need it to head out during the day - frees up some space next to my chair

I just got it, then raced over here, and of course a bunch of people beat me to it. I don't know how much I will read on my laptop, but since I am Kindle-less until I get out of my financial hole, it is a good option. It also opens up the option to get books with a lot of color illustrations and photos.
I haven't even looked for some sort of book organization scheme, but I gather it's not there. Amazon promised that for Kindles at the end of last year. I wonder why they are dragging their feet. I would like to hear from early iPad buyers whether iBooks has some kind of organizing system.

I downloaded it! I doubt I'll use it much, but I just like having it.
