Hello everyone,

I have my books on my K2 organized alphabetically by author.  Problem is, my Kindle seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to determining the alphabet....it sometimes goes by the author's first name, and sometimes the last, seemingly at random.  For example, it has placed Arthur Machen ahead of Margaret Atwood.  It has done this with other titles as well.  Just wondering if anyone else has this problem?

This may be happening because the book's metadata is incorrect. I noticed that in Caliber when I added all my books to it. I had to go in and manually change the 'Sort by' field (I can't recall if that's the exact name but it's just under 'Author Name'). A number of books had the last name first in the Author field, and the 'Sort' field had it flipped so it would sort that book by the author's first name. Does this make sense? I think I read that the new version of Caliber allows you to edit the metadata of DRM'd books now, so maybe that could help.

I believe the field is "Author Sort" in Calibre -- give it a go.

Yes, it's true.  Metadata can be edited in Calibre.  And it's easy!

Thank you, I didn't really know what Calibre was, I'll have to check it out.

I've noticed that too, and the book's data is wrong.  I sort by title as that is what I'm more likely to remember.  In the Library world, if the title starts with A, An, or The you drop that word and alphabetize by the next word, but titles are inconsistent in this too, so a bunch of titles are in the T's because of The.
