how do I turn the text speech on

I have a DX and am trying to fiqure out how to turn the speech on .I just want to try it out to see if it works.Sorry I am a new kindle owner

Open a book you want to hear, press the Menu button and if it is enabled for that book you should be able to start it.

It's actually the Aa button you use for fonts isn't it?  I know that's how I always access it.

Also you can toggle TTS on and off with Shift+SYM. Space bar pauses/unpauses.

Note that the book has to allow TTS - many have it disabled.

You can also load your Kindle up with AudioBooks (in an MP3 format).  I've done some of my best reading with my eyes closed!
