Just wondering....  why are so many (in fact, most) free books on Amazon, Christian fiction?

The genres seem to come in waves. There was a point when the majority of free books were Science Fiction; then we went through a spate of Romance.

I am happy with them! However, once you read one... then you have to buy the next ones in the series.

I've wondered the same thing.  I've only had my Kindle since January and it seems all the free books since then have been Christian fiction.  At first I was downloading them because hey, you feel like you must, since they are free, LOL.  But now I rarely download them, because the first ones I downloaded are still sitting there unread.  I wish they would offer some thrillers, or mystery.  Hate to complain about free though.

I've always enjoyed looking at the recommendations from Amazon on my home page.  I couldn't figure out why my recommendations were suddenly skewed towards Christian fiction.  Then I realized that it was from a couple of freebies I picked up.

So now when I look at free books, I check out the genre in addition to the description/reviews and avoid anything that isn't of the genre I don't typically read.  Not that I don't want to broaden my horizons, but it just skewed my recommendations really bad.

I download it all. When I first got my Kindle (back in December '08) there was a wave of paranormal romance. Lots of people complained about them. Since then I have gotten books of all different generes free. I enjoy branching out and reading something new. Now I have over 40 pages of books and I can't remember what they all are, so it's like a grab bag of fun surprises!

The most important genre free are the classics. That's the one I keep digging into often.

I'm with MAGreen, a grab bag of books!  Found one the other day that was absolutely horrible - but it was free, so didn't feel bad about deleting after reading a portion of it.  But have also found some terrific reads!

HarperCollins apparently decided to throw us a bone and put up a bunch of free books yesterday in conjunction with the new agency pricing. Unfortunately, they are all YA which is a genre I'm not particularly fond of. However, free is free, so I've downloaded about 15 books and I'm sure at least a few of them will be enjoyable. I save them for months when I've gone way over budget and have to tone it down a bit.

By all means, check the free book thread in the Book Bazaar as all of yesterday's freebies are posted there. The freebies include 10 of the Lemony Snicket books (although not the first one in the series).

I usually download most free books (Christian books are my genre of choice), but none of the Harper Collins offerings peaked my interest at all. Most of them were very old titles or genres I didn't care for. Still, there were a variety of titles offered and I'm sure a lot of folks were happy with them.

I was thrilled with all the YA books. It might keep the BRATs occupied for a bit.

I've been wanting to read the Lemony Snicket books. . .had only gotten around to purchasing the first one. . . got the rest of the freebies.  I know if I decide I like the stories, I'll just purchase the other two that weren't free when the time comes.  And I don't even have BRATs as an excuse.  Roll Eyes
