So, tomorrow will be two weeks since I purchased my Kindle, and it will also be the day that my replacement Kindle arrives.

That's correct, my replacement. Walking out the door this morning, as I reached for the handle to lock it, the tip of my M-Edge GO! case nicked the door frame, pushing it out of my hands from waist height, and onto the floor outside my door. As soon as I picked it up, I was worried. When I flicked it to come back to life from sleep mode, the entire screen flickered to life with the exception of the top right corner. Which kept the ink from the screensaver that was displayed. There was also a noticeable line from top to bottom along the right side where no ink was printing on.

The case doesn't have adequate protection for a drop, so I'm looking for something a bit more dependable. I've already made arrangements to return my M-Edge case to Amazon, and would appreciate any suggestions on cases that are a bit more protective of my $250 investment.

I would prefer something not too flashy, and comfortable to hold in my hand while reading. The M-Edge case was perfect, and felt great in my hand, so I will definitely miss the comfort.

Any suggestions?

Wow.... that would break my heart if my Kindle broke. I have actually dropped mine at least three times in my house from waist level to the carpet without problems. Mine has been in the Amazon Kindle cover(when dropped)... not pretty but it survived. I think an Oberon cover with a Borsa Bella travel bag would protect one greatly. I have three of the travel bags and they are very well padded and so nice to carry.

I'll look into the case for sure, thanks for the suggestion. I'm not really into carry bags. I like the look of the M-Edge because it just looks like a leather bound day planner.

The M-Edge wouldn't be bad if instead of the straps on the outside corners, it actually had a little bit of thick leather or something there to protect it from the impact and absorb a bit of the shock.

Embarrassed  Not a good day, that's for sure.  At least the replacement is on it's way.

Very few cases provide any real corner protection, and nothing's going to protect from ALL drops or impacts.  Protection from travel bags is pretty minimal as they're only padded with fleece or quilt type padding which just isn't enough to disperse an impact of any kind--you'd need the cushioning of something like a moderately thick neoprene to make it truly a protective device.  (Disclaimer--I own about 8 BB bags of various types, and they're exceptionally well made. Obviously I'm a big fan. But protective?  Not in my opinion.)

Having said that, my Kindle has been dropped in all of the following at some point or another, either on tile or on concrete.  Knock on wood, so far there's been no damage at all.  But I also have the Square Trade extended warranty on mine, with the Accidental Damage waiver, for just such possibilities.

Oberon
Noreve
Trendy Digital Simplicity sleeve

The Mivizu Sleek I also own does protect all the corners, but it has virtually no padding at all, so from a protection standpoint, I've never felt 100% comfortable with it.

Check out the Alicia Klein platform cover - it's hard to beat the protection when closed - the cover snaps shut, and all four corners are covered completely when it's closed.  Unfortunately the only non-flashy option is the black, which is showing out of stock right now and isn't even coming up in an Amazon search.  But you could contact them and ask how long before it's back in stock - they seem to be pretty responsive.  I have the Nancy Drew platform cover and LOVE it - not just for the theme but also because it's lightweight and nice to hold.  I never even gave much thought to how protective it really is until I read your post.

There's also a book-style option, but the top right corner is pretty much like all book style covers, including the Go cover.

I've actually dropped Kate several times ( Embarrassed) and she survived intact in her Austen bobarra case:

Don't know if I was extra lucky or if it's extra protective, but I can say that the edges and corners are perfectly covered in this case, w/ nothing poking out, and the padding is pretty significant.

I've dropped mine or had it knocked out of my hands by my baby a few times and my Oberon has protected it every time. The corners are very sturdy and extend above the Kindle, so they absorb the bulk of the impact well.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to look into them and decide on a new case soon.

(BTW, The new Kindle is already here, woohoo!)

Another vote for the Alicia Klein cases. I dropped mine in a m edge case and have scratches on the corner to show for it. My new Alicia Klein feels considerably safer. Also I won't go back to a book style cover.

Another vote for Oberon. Have dropped my Kindle a handful of times from various heights while in my Oberon, and no damage whatsoever. I tried to go back to MEdge for their Icon jacket, and I was constantly worried because I didn't feel like it was protected enough vs. the Oberon.

Ironicallly, my Kindle fell off a chair today. I had it in a M-edge Platform and it was fine. I was lucky, I guess.

So sorry to here about your Kindle  Embarrassed I can definitely recommend the combo suggested above. There are a couple Oberon covers that are simple in design and BB offers a very nice black fabric bag - either in the travel or regular style. Hope that helps  Smiley

My vote is for Oberon.  It is sturdy, well made, and offers supreme protection.

You may want to consider using a Borsa Bella bag to carry your Kindle.  While in a bag with a wrist or shoulder strap, you may be less likely to drop it.  It is well padded to add an additional layer of protection to your Kindle.

The square trade warantee doesn't kick in until 30 days after you purchase the Kindle...so in this case it wouldn't help.

I had my Kindle next to me in the car when I pulled up to a hotel. I was in a SUV and pretty high up. The valet opened the door and it fell out and landed on the concrete. I nearly died. It is in an Oberon cover and when I opened it and turned it on I was so happy. The cover had protected it, so I will always keep mine in an Oberon.

My Oberon has protected my Kindle from some drops, but my daughter has had two screen failures while in the Oberon though she couldn't recall an impact  Roll Eyes, YMMV.
I really wish Otterbox would make a Kindle case.  They are making one for the iPad.
