Glad you joined us!

I have a question, if you were looking for a specific bible verse, could you do a search and find it?

Also, is it hard to follow if you're reading the new testament and old testament at the same time?

Kimmy, you can go to the Table of Contents click on the book of the bible you want and then chapter and verse. Someone correct me if that is wrong, I have used it before and I *think* that is what I did.  Huh

I find it more interesting to read the old and new testaments together. I don't have difficulty following at all because they are different in some ways but reading them side by side shows how it is all related. Also I love having a Psalm and something from Proverbs which are two of my favorite books of the bible.

Why don't you sample it and see what you think?

I've sorta cheated when I wanted to look up a scripture. I had bought a Bible for 99 cents. (Actually, it is my all-time favorite version!). I find it easy to navigate in it too. So I just click out of the OYB and go to the American Standard version to look up my scripture.

Thank you both for your answers. I was wondering if I would need a separate Bible to search.

I've started reading from beginning to end and was afraid if I read new and old and the same time, I would get confused.

I'm glad to hear they don't have the 'thees' and 'thous'. Did they leave out the begots too?  Cheesy

I just bought the One Year Bible. I have been looking for a way to get back into reading the Bible and have always been a bit daunted by just picking the Bible up and reading starting at Genesis. This sounds like it might be a good way of setting aside time to read and reflect.

Thanks for the suggestion!

First, a big welcome to all new OYB readers! I will be thinking of all my fellow readers every day when I do my reading.

A caveat on the second Bible I have on my Kindle, the American Standard edition: It is chock full of thees and thous! I actually don't mind the thees and thous. For me, the 23rd Psalm "The Lord is my shepherd, etc. etc." is just so beautiful with things like "He maketh me". I love that!  Smiley

The American Standard version is exactly like the King James version, except all the places where God's name was removed from the King James version, it is restored in the American Standard version. I like having God's name there rather than calling both Jehovah (or Yahweh) and Jesus by the name Lord. I prefer to know exactly who the writer was referring to.

How awesome that our OYB group is growing!!  I love this version and have enjoyed it for many years now.... first as a DTB and now on my Kindle which I enjoy even more.  I am constantly amazed how often I see a connection between what I'm reading from the OT and the NT on any given day.  This version has given me a whole new perspective on how the whole Bible "weaves" together and I never get tired of reading it.  I'm thinking of each of you as I read daily......

Suzanne, I bought the 99 cents Bible also! Thanks for recommending that. I figure if it's on my kindle, I can read my devotion before reading anything else. It's in the same place so it should be easier to keep up with. Especially if it's broken down in a day by day format.

I'll definitely post in a couple days and give my review.  Wink

WOW... I go away for a few days (well, almost a week) and our OYB group has grown!! How awesome! I hope you all have been well. I just needed to take some time off from the computer to spend time with my sweet hubby. My KB time will more than likely be shorter in the furture as well. As much as I love being here, I have to be a better steward of my time and energy and I tend to get carried away when I spend too much time on the computer. I will be keeping up with all of you through this thread and Christian Fiction... and of course I have to check out the bargains and freebies!!

I have wondered where you were, you were missed. I admire you for cutting back on KB, I need to do the same thing.

It's good to see you again, Angela. You have been missed. I can understand limiting your computer time. I also have to do that occasionally. But don't be a stranger. You are loved here.

I had decided I needed to cut back on my KB time also.  I realized I was on my laptop more than I was reading on MaKK and I needed to put that in a better balance for my "free time".  I have to check Bargain Books and Free Books each day..... if I don't check them daily, the offer could very well be gone.  Some books have a lower price for only a matter of hours before they go back up, so timing is important.
In our OYB readings, I've been enjoying seeing how Abraham (and his descendants) was blessed because of his faith.  And, in our NT daily readings we're seeing people who are healed by Jesus because of their faith (or a family member's faith).  It always seems so incredible to me how strong a faith Abraham had..... long, long before Jesus was even born and the Bible was written.  And here I am.... with my Bible as my "instruction manual" and I have Jesus' example and words.... and my faith pales in comparison.

Funny how in today's reading, the 12 tribes are listed in the Old Testament reading and the 12 apostles are listed in the New Testament reading!

Linda

That's correct, Linda, you can go to Table of Contents in the menu,  select Books of the Bible, then select the book you want and page to the correct chapter and verse.

One advantage to having a separate Bible is that you don't lose your place in the OYB.

That's why I decided to get the 99 cent Bible also. I was afraid I'd lose my place. Besides, you can beat 99 cents.  Smiley

I've been reading the OYB for a couple of days now and I really do like it. I like how it's written in plain english where I can understand it better. So far, I haven't had any problems reading both the New Testament and Old Testament at the same time. I also like that each section is dated so you know where to stop for the next day. When it's broken up for you, it doesn't seem so overwhelming.

Thanks so very much for recommending the OTB. I think it's going to make reading the Bible, much easier.
