Does anyone know if books purchased from either site can be converted to be read on a Kindle? I do have Calibre..... can't quite figure out from their websites if either will work though, thought I'd ask BEFORE I buy!

Thanks!

If the books are DRM'd - copy protected - then the answer is no. Generally speaking, books you have to pay for will probably be protected. Public domain books which are given away free are often multi format and non DRM'd. Somewhere on the page where the book is described, it should tell you the format and if it's encrypted.

If you're computer savvy there are ways to break the DRM on some books and a search on google would probably find you the necessary software. But of course, that would be illegal.....

I have been able to purchase quite a few books and use Calibre to convert them, if they are pdf's, but one of these sites says something about epub, I'm not sure what that is....

Epub can be non DRM, but it usually has some form of protection on it, and there are multiple types used.

My understanding is that for the most part the Mobipocket.com books are DRM'd (also known as secure MOBI), and you would have to break that DRM in order to use them on the Kindle.
