Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

I am tempted to pick up one the books that support this, just to see what it's like. One is about FDR and include audio of his fireside chats. iPhone/Touch/iPad only though Sad

Are these readable on the Kindle without the audio and video?

That would be a cool feature. Buy the book ONCE and it changes based on the device's capabilities.

I would imagine so.

This was one of the books mentioned, it has FDR fireside chats included. I wonder if this will be rolled into the PC/Mac versions.

That's what I meant, the desktop app should be able to support this as well as the iphone/ipad apps do. But I think this is more an answer to the ibooks than anything else.

I tried the lullaby one

It is basically a songbook.  It has 50 songs, the lyrics and music (both notes and a digital sounding version of the song that will play for you, without the lyrics).  There are a few pictures but that is pretty much it.

For $10, I really expected more.

They mention inclusion of video/audio. What else were you expecting? I guess it depends how the individual author/publisher decides to utilize it, there is also one of bird songs that looks interesting.

I really was not sure what to expect.  The description could have been a bit more detailed and the audio is capable of real music and it is very digital.  So I was disappointed in the quality of the music and the fact that it was just a song book.

I would imagine they are trying to keep the size of the ebooks down, especially if a book also gets put on a regular Kindle which has 'only' 2GB of space (well a Kindle 2 that is)

I put the FDR book on my Pad. Found it very interesting. The actual text was well written and FDR's actual speeches in his voice a nice bonus. I think that we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg on this technology. Who knows where this technology is going?

I bought the bird songs one, and wasn't terribly impressed.  I may have had unrealistic expectations, but I thought the existing iBird apps (available through the Apps store) were a better value.  No video in the Kindle edition, which disappointed me.

I had thought that this might download on my Kindle and give access to the songs, but my Kindle doesn't even acknowledge that it is available for download.

Not sure I would want this on my hardware kindle, would eat battery life quickly. Can you get the book onto your regular Kindle at all, or is your ipad the only option for it?

I think i might wait before i decide to try this. I agree that it sounds like it will eat the battery and since it is so new, might need to work the bugs out

Interesting--Last night I synced and my K2 didn't even acknowledge that the Bird a/v book was in my library.  I tried it again just now, and the book did download.  The book is there, and has the marker for where I was last looking on my iPad last night.  But there is a sort of popup message that says something like "This book contains audio content that is not currently supported on your Kindle."

But they don't work on a kindle, only an ipad, which has at least 16 GB of space.  They should be able to do better.
