Is it too late to join the fun? I plan to start after I read Gone with the wind. May sound silly but what Genre would you consider this series? I ask because I keep a list of books that I read.

It's never too late! I joined in when they were partway through book 3, but I caught up in a couple of weeks and was able to join in. Plus of course, there's nothing to say you can't comment on the older threads. Genre.... historical fiction but Amazon also has it in Historical Romance and Time Travel.

When Outlander was first written, the bookstores put it in the romance section, which upset DG considerably. Harlequin it isn't. I wouldn't put it in historical fiction because I have a very narrow definition of that genre. The main character has to be an actual historical character. I have it listed in my little book as just "historical." Time travel is only a trigger, not a main element. Confused? It's okay. I always say Outlander defies a strict definition. Do join us. We love to introduce new people to the series, and we love to get new points of view. Just so you know, the latest book is coming out on 9/22, and we're trying to read the last three books before then. Don't worry about keeping up, just jump in as you can. Gertie

Gertie, you are so right about this series defying definition. I have a hard time describing to others. It's in a catagory all its own. deb

I have found that even book stores have a hard time deciding where to put Outlander. I have found it in the Romance section, in the SciFi/Fantasy section, in Historical Fiction and now, I generally find it in the generic Fiction/Literature section.
I would like to find my original copy since it was published, a section was taken out of the book. In my first copy, when Claire is first on her way to the Castle, she asks Jamie's name. She is told it is MacTavish and several men react in surprise. That was taken out but several references to Jamie being MacTavish is still in there.

It's sort of still there. When Claire first says MacTavish during the first day or so at the Castle, someone doesn't know who she means, and Dougal explains she means Jamie. It's only later she starts to realize that it's probably not his name so it's still part of the storyline. But yeah, on a search of the word MacTavish on the kindle, him telling her the name MacTavish doesn't come up.

Yes, that is what I meant. Jamie is referred to as MacTavish several times but the original passage where he tells Claire his name is MacTavish, before they ever arrive at the castle, is not there.

I wonder if any of us has their original copy. Both my paperback and original hardback are long gone. I think I may have had two paperbacks. Now I've got the whole set in hardback and, of course, safely on Little Gertie.

Well I am 3/4 of the way through A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Had to take a break - it's stressful reading right now!! When I am done, I'll come along to the thread in the Book Corner forum so I can get it off my chest LOL. I'll just say "Malva", for those who've read finished. You know what I mean

Whew! I just finished. Now I don't know what to do with myself. I'll re-read sections of each along with the Book Klub, but not sure what else to read now. I have so much of my TBR list, and wish list, but where to start after that epic?? I always find it hard after reading a good series. Thousands of pages get you so much into the story that it's hard to let them go.

I still read Outlander every year.

I have been an Outlander fan since it was published as well. I am just reading along with the Klub now, waiting for the next one. I may still have my first copy of Outlander, if I can find it, I will definately copy the section in question.

The sample doesn't go quite far enough, although it gives a lot of background that becomes important later on. It ends about two pages before the really good stuff begins.

I'm about 3/4 of the way threw Outlander and I love it. Harry Potter is just going to be put further down the tbr pile. If anyone has a copy of An Outlandish Companion they no longer want send a pm my way. I think part of the reason I like the series so much is because I'm Irish, Scots & Welsh with some Cherokee and Blackfoot.

You've got five more books to get through and the next one comes out 9/22. We're hoping the Kindle version comes out the same time. We've been discussing the series since January. As you're reading, you might want to glance through some of the discussions. Welcome to the Jamie and Claire club.
