Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Last fall I took my son a K2 with the screensaver and font hacks installed. Oh, he's in the Air Force, stationed in Germany. Anyway, he's home on leave, so I decided to uninstall the hacks so he could get the latest update (with upwards of 900 books on his K2, he could really use the collections in the 2.5 update).

Anyway, I used the uninstall files I had so nicely stored. The fonts came off just fine, but the screensavers? I'm turning into a whimpering mess here! I've tried every uninstall file I've got and those I can find and nothing works. No matter what I do, it still says 2.0.3 (327610024) + SS 0.4. I tried and tried and nothing worked. Then I got desperate. I copied all the files off his documents folder, then tried to reset it to factory settings. That should have worked, right? All the books came off, it deregistered his K2, but that stupid +SS 0.4 is still there! It's like some sort of parasite that I can't get rid of!

Help, please??? I am not technology challenged. I have put on and taken off lots of hacks. This one has me stumped. I need to get this straightened out before he goes back to Germany!

I had the same thing happen to me before - that's why I no longer use the hack on my Kindle. I don't remember how I fixed it, but I think I just kept running the uninstall until it finally worked.

Did you try the file listed in the link at the bottom of my Kindle Hacks page for versions earlier than 2.3? Here's the link to that uninstall file: http://www.charles-reace.com/Kindle_Hacks/Update_kindle2_restore_default_screen_savers.bin.

When you install a hack, you are altering the system files. Now the Kindle no longer recognizes what it used to be, so you need to uninstall the hack with the proper uninstall file to return it to its original state. I suspect that NogDog has the right solution for you.

Thanks, everyone. I just kept fooling around with it and finally something clicked. Not sure what it was! Now, for the update!
