Just letting you know that I've decided to pull this short story once I've compiled it into an anthology of short stories which will include this one but also several other new short stories that will make the paperback roughly novel length.  Once it's in the anthology though it will no longer be available as a single so if you still want to read it cheap, only $0.99, as a single now is the time to buy.

Hi all,

'An Unholy Encounter' still available for only $0.99

It should have been a simple trade mission but a chance encounter with a massed force of some of Karameikos’ skeletons and zombies have turned it into a night of terror.  Everyone knows that the undead can only be destroyed with blessed weapons and High King Erich, his son Slade, and adopted son Wulfstan carry no blessed weapons with them. 
Finding a rough shelter Wulfstan volunteers to venture out into the night to seek out a temple or a blessed weapon.  But the cold night holds many dangers and there is no guarantee that Wulfstan can succeed in his self-imposed mission. 
Now King Erich and Slade must wait, hoping and praying for Wulfstan’s return – if he returns.

It's another Kaynos History Tale and I hope it will be as well received as the first, 'A Very Hairy Adventure'

Amazon doesn't yet have up the product description so I'll give you mine here:-

"An Unholy Encounter" brought to mind some of the early Solomon Kane tales of R.E. Howard. The heroes -- the principled (and Arthurian) High King Erich, Slade and Wulfstan are journeying together when they find themselves in a very harrowing situation involving a band of undead.

There's a nice POV shift early on from Slade to Wulfstan, and then we follow Wulfstan on his mission to procure the means of fighting the undead.

Tracey Alley cleverly inserts snippets of background without detracting from the plot. Her action scnes are vivid and immediate, but without being unduly graphic. There are no expletives and there's an overall sense of high fantasy as principled as the King himself.

Some of the language if straight from D&D - "high level" priests, but that's perhaps the niche this author is looking for.

I like the way this short-story develops characters who might otherwise have lesser roles in the novel.

The break-neck pace, the immediacy of the action and the focus on the heroic efforts of Wulfstan led me to situate this tale in the Sword & Sorcery genre, which just happens to be one of my favourites.

The short stories are all background to the Witchcraft Wars but it helped me to flesh out my characters a little.  I confess that I especially like this one as Wulfstan is a favourite of mine.... but don't tell anyone

This little story is still doing surprisingly well.  Runs to about 7k and I wrote this for a friend of mine to showcase the character of Wulfstan - all of which would probably make more sense once you've read Ursula's Quest and Slade's Destiny.

Now that I've thoroughly confused you let's just say it's an action packed adventure story suitable for adults or YA, even younger Mid-graders.
