Kindle 2 or Nook?

This may have been answered, but if you really cannot use a K2I at home, you could still download books in a place where it did get good service.

OR

You could buy a used K2 US or a refubished one if available and then you'd have the Sprint connection.

I'm glad I read this, but I am more confused now.  I was ready to buy a kindle over the nook because of the internet connection.  How often will I need that? 
AT&T does not work at all in my house or within about a 2 mile radius.  Sprint (my cell phone service) and verizon work just fine.  If I can't get AT&T service will I be able to buy books???

I to am new to Kindle and I am so glad that I decided to get it rather than the Nook.  I truthfully didn't know which one to pick, so I decided to go with the Kindle because it has been around longer than the Nook and it seemed more "established" to me.  My daughter wanted to get an e-reader, so she decided to get the Nook so that we would have both.  She purchased it today, got home with it and couldn't even download a book.  Some screen appeared and told her to contact a certain number.  Apparently, the server for the Nook was down or something.  I felt really sorry for her because she was so excited and she couldn't get it to work.  After knowing that I haven't had any problems at all with my Kindle, she is taking the Nook back tomorrow and ordering a Kindle.  
The only thing that I liked better on the Nook is that you can choose different font types.  However, you can get font hacks for the Kindle.  I haven't done that yet because I am waiting for the new 2.5.2 versions.

With the latest K2/DX software upgrade to 2.5.x, we may not have the ability to install font "hacks" anymore, as it appears Amazon has plugged the "hole" in the software that allowed those hacks to be installed. However, they are in the process of rolling out a software development kit (SDK) to allow 3rd party programmers to create/sell Kindle applications, which maybe at some point will include the same sort of unofficial font and screen-saver hacks many of us have become accustomed to. But that's all speculation at this point.

If you were to go with a used K1 as you discussed in another thread, it already has an ability to change the screen-saver images, but to the best of my knowledge no way to load other fonts.

The big reason to own either a Kindle or a Nook for me was the Eink screen so I could read outdoors. Otherwise, why not just use a netbook or notebook or even the Ipad?

Which to buy? Try them, Kindle at Target, Nook at BN. I own the Kindle 2. The Nook is probably a little nicer, but runs down the battery a bit faster and the books (right now) cost more on average.
