is making me want to go buy more books. I just filled my Unread collection with more than 200 books and now I want more. Is this happening to anyone else?

I don't think I want to buy any more books right now - I'd have to add them to a collection and my thumb is starting to protest! 16 more pages of books to organize...

Actually, it's nice to be reviewing some of my older books. I've run across a few I never finished and some series that are incomplete. And I'm curious to see what collection will end up with the most book.

Now that I can see exactly how many I haven't read, I don't want to buy any for a while.

No worries! Since I have a Klassic Kindle, I am just as clueless as ever as to the contents of the 37 pages of books on my home pages.

This is kind of how I feel.  I have several books I've purchased that I've not yet read, but there are two books I REALLY want to read that I haven't yet purchased.

Question:  once I move a book into a Collection, shouldn't it come off my home pages?  I created a Collection and moved 7 books into it, I still see the books on the Home pages.  I created another Collection for a different series and I don't see those books on the Home pages.  If someone could let me know how this should be working I would appreciate it.  I am sure it is something very simple.  Thanks!  Loving the Collections BTW.

If you sort your home page by collection, only the books not in collections should show.  If you sort by author, title or most recent, all books will show.

Ditto.  So far all I've done is change all the metadata in Calibre and search for cover art.  I'm glad I did it even though it was gruesomely tedious and boring, but when I was finished I would have fainted had anyone mentioned the possibility of acquiring even one more book.  Now I have to do my collections and I know that when I've finished I will be firm in my resolve that there will be no new books for me until I have read at least half of those in my unread pile.

I bought three more. Once I got the books I had finished out of the way, I realized that really I only had four books left to read (other than freebie classics), and I was already halfway through two of them. So, time to stock up....  Grin

I am loving making the collections!  Now I'm looking at them trying to decide if I like the format I put them in (Last Name, First Name) or if I want to switch them.   I did decide that I wanted Currently Reading and Samples at the top of the page though.  I've only just begun adding books to collections, I'm gonna be busy tonight.  and tomorrow.

And I realized if I read one book a day, I would be set for like 2 years ..... and yet I STILL have a list a mile long of books to research, books to buy when I have more gift certs from points, etc.....

I made a category for chick lit and only found 2 books (out of 458 although I'm not done organizing) that fit the category.

So of course I have to go to Amazon and buy a few more chick lit books to fill up the category, right?  Grin

I have about 80 books in collections and 19 more pages of books to go through .... Part of me wants to buy stuff to fill out thin collections, but I'm showing a little restraint this time .... but don't get used to it.  Smiley

Ok, now that I have 2.5.2 - I am exhausted.  All this organizing is crazy but worth it.  I am essentially starting from scratch with my Kindle, once I verify that all of the books on my Kindle are in fact in Calibre which is what I am doing now.  Besides the normal categories like Mystery and Detective, etc., I have decided that most of my Collections will be series.  I read a tremendous amount of Series, like the Anita Blake series or the Jack Reacher series which is what I am finishing up now (in between all the organization).  I especially want to go back into Calibre and do all of my series like Luvmy4brats suggested, changing the published date on the books so they show up in the Collections in order.  That is going to take quite an effort.  Pray for me  Wink Wink  - I hope to come up for air, sometime in August.

Wishing everyone Good Luck in the organizational efforts and boy do we have OCD on these boards or what?  LOL!

You say that like there's something wrong with it....

As for not buying any more books....well, does the fact that I got one new Amazon freebie, 3 new samples, and oh yeah, bought 11 new books from Fictionwise -- all this morning -- mean that I would answer that with a 'no, I'm not planning on cutting down on getting new things'? Huh  (Even though I should... Cheesy)

It does take a good bit of time (I had over 500 books to do) but in the end, it's SO worth it! If only the rest of my life was this organized.

I have over 1000 that I want to put back on the Kindle in some form of Collection or another and another 1900 within Calibre that I don't have the strength to touch right now.  Like I said, it will be August before I talk to anyone on these boards again.  LOL!

When I put a book in a collection is it really necessary to keep it on the home pages too?  That appears to be the case but I'm hoping I've missed something that someone else hasn't.

The only way to have just collections and no individual books is to sort your home screen by 'collection' - check the top right of your screen. This will put your collections in most recently accessed order and only books not already assigned to at least one collection will apear below them. All the other sort options leave the individual books in with the collections.

I should have been more specific.  I would like to put a book in a collection and then delete it from the home page.  To put it another way, I want that book in only one place -- in a collection.  I don't want to hide it by sorting.  I want it gone.

As I said, it seems that isn't an option and I wanted to ask if that is correct or not.

If you sort your home screen by collection - it will only be in one place - in the collection and not on the homescreen.

Two nations divided by a common language.

My point is that I don't want 50 pages of individual books following my two pages of collections.  I want the books to be in a collection.  Period.  That's the only place I want them to be.  Sorting by collections to hide them is not the same as getting rid of them.  I want to be rid of them.

Yes, we do seem to be going around in circles, don't we! My point is that there is only one file on your Kindle. There are not two copies of your book, one in the collection and one out of it. So you can't delete the one and leave the other. Sorting by collection does not hide your book, it simply stops the Kindle from displaying another link to your book outside the collection.

LOL - shall we agree to disagree on this one! Grin

There's nothing to disagree about.  I didn't know there was only one copy.  It certainly seemed as if there was more than one since I was seeing the same books in more than one place, but after pondering that riddle for a while I now understand how it works.  Thank heaven for you and Luvmy4brats!

Collections are tags, not folders. You don't "put" a book into a collection, but assign collection to a book.

I agree that if a book is in a collection, it's not going to show when you have your home page sorted by collections.  Any books still showing after the collections isn't in a collection.

Magazines, on the other hand . . . well don't get me started on periodicals.
