I downloaded the update last night, followed the instructions to download and transfer to the Kindle, then went to "update" the kindle. It started to do the update immediately. The bar went up to a little over half way and has not moved since. What do I do??? Thanks in advance.

What you do is call Kindle Support per Amazon's instructions with the download info. Here it is, in case you missed it:
If you cannot successfully update your Kindle software using the instructions above or encounter any difficulty with your software update, please contact Kindle Support.
To reach Kindle Support via phone or e-mail, please click the "Contact Us" button in the right-hand column of this page. Contacting us through the website allows you to verify security before a call is placed and ensures we have your account information ready when we call you.
You can also reach us by calling one of these numbers:
* Inside the United States: 1-866-321-8851 * Outside the United States: 1-206-266-0927

Sounds like you downloaded the global instead of the US. If you aren't certain, download the US one and apply it. Or, if Kindle CS is open call them.

No, I know I downloaded the correct version. I had to leave to go to work when I originally posted and have a very busy day here so am unlikely going to find the time to spend with Amazon Support until this evening. Will most certainly call them but was hoping someone here may know something. Thanks.

It happened to me. (except K2i) I tried to cancel it, but then I couldn't get it to open from the Amazon website again. Luckily, I had my husbear's pc available, and did the upload flawlessly from there.
I have Win 7 on my pc, he doesn't. I don't know if that was the issue, or not. Plus, I was on Firefox on my pc, but IE on his.

I have Windows 7, and I manually updated my Kindle US easily with it. Of course, every computer is different, so what wasn't an issue for me could absolutely have been an issue for you.
In the meantime, my advice would be to call Amazon Customer Support.

I did call customer support at lunch and they were able to get my Kindk=le unfrozen but it had not updated. Will need to wait until I go home and start all over manually updating. Atleast I can read for a bit now before my lunch is over.
Thanks to all.
