So the good news is I figured out how to move the library to my laptop, the bad news is none of the changes I spent hours and hours making to the metadata were transferred.... what did I do wrong? I installed Calibre on my laptop, used a travel drive to transfer the library, added all the books to calibre from the travel drive, but none of the changes are there. Is there a way to do it and get the updated changes? Or am I out of luck?

I'm fairly clueless, can anyone offer suggestions?

See this thread:

Make sure the metadata.db file gets copied, also.

Thanks for the help Mike, again, not sure what I did, but that link got me there somehow!

For future reference a simple way to do this is to copy the ENTIRE folder that the library is stored in on one computer, and move that onto the new one.  Then in Calibre go to preferences and change the folder that it uses to the one where your library is stored.  This will then import everything, including the add date which is nice, into Calibre on the new computer.

That's what I did, just had trouble making it all work. But we are all happy now....

I am on Whidbey at this very moment! I live in Clinton, on the south end of the island. Where were you?

edit to add that I apologize for going off topic! But no one knows Whidbey Island... although we do have lots of Kindles up here, I've seen them! Must be the rain, nothing else to do but read....

I like the neuromancer cover.  I always wanted to be part of the Rastafarian Navy.

But seriously, anyone who saw The Last Mimsy knows about Whidbey Island.  Funny, of all the Sci-Fi I've read, I've never read that story.  Guess I have to go look for it on my Kindle now.

Very nice! It was nice the 2 times I've been there.  I'm from Seattle but have family all over the state so have seen quite a bit of it.  Sorry for going off topic. Smiley

I've never read it, but saw the movie. Not filmed on Whidbey, and completely inaccurate as far as the island goes! I hope the book was more accurate.

It's not a book, it's a short story.... you can read it here:

http://mimsyweretheborogoves.webs.com/index.htm

It has a passing resemblance to the movie (which changed the spelling of "mimsy" to "mimzy" for some reason)

It appears the story has nothing to do with Whidbey Island! And the movie hopelessly confused people as to where it is and how to get here.....

Oh well!

Back on topic now... I did actually get all my books transfer from the old computer to the new computer to the Kindle, with a slight Kindle melt down, that required a reset to factory defaults, then downloading everything again.

But we are all happy now! And it is in fact NOT raining on Whidbey Island, it is quite warm and sunny.

How funny! I live just above Sunlight Beach! I look out my front window at that community..... what a small world this is. Pretty good chance the weather will be good. It usually is by then. My daughter is getting married up here on the 3rd of July, that's when we have questionable weather. The good weather usually starts on July 5th.

Yeah, after living in various areas around Seattle for 20 years, you get used to summer being from July 5 to Sep 1.

My wife's great-grandmother used to have a house on Sunlight Beach. I think one of her uncles ended up with it.

Basilius, Sunlight Beach is a great little community, expect they keep taking down the old cabins and putting up nasty big houses.....

Kwajkat, I know! We can't get a break, we haven't had two days in a row of sun in months....

More time I stay in and read out Kindles I guess!
