Outlander Series

On the flip side from K_Reader, I do not like romance novels, and yet I love this series.  I am a fantasy and sci-fi junkie, and I have to say that this is one of my favorite reads.  I am through the third book and can not put it down.  All of the books are so beautifully written and so masterfully staged that you cannot help but be sucked into the story.  I am not one for extraneous love scenes or battles, but feel that all instances of both are done well and definitely advance the plot.
I would reccomend this series (very highly) to anyone!!

k_reader, Bambi, thanks for your posts.  You addressed both sides of the coin; or should I say the many sides of the coin.  Outlander, appeals to people on many different levels and crosses over different genres easily. 

I guess the common thread for all of us is that the story and the characters just get inside of us and don't let go.  That's some pretty powerful writing.

Me too, actually. I really hope that the Kindle will help broaden my scope of reading into areas I would never try with conventional books. Someone else said it well in a post stating they liked how you can read anything you want on the Kindle without having to worry about people seeing what you are reading.

Yep, yep, yep.  This is one of my favorite things about the Kindle.

I ordered the sample to check it out anyway. I am not too hopeful of samples yet. I read one sample that wasn't even 10 Kindle pages long and stopped. I barely even knew the main characters name much less the idea of the story. I had a better idea of the story from the summary on Amazon. LOL

I love this about the kindle!!!! Its know ones business what I am reading!!!! Which is Voyager, right now.  I just LOVE this series.  Sigh.

Not to mention you can carry all six books (soon to be seven) in your purse, and highlight the good parts (for future discussion *cough*) without anyone being the wiser.

Of course it's for future discussion.  What else would it be for?  Also, you don't have to worry about highlighter ink bleeding through the pages, which is why I had to replace my copy of Dead to the World with a Kindle copy.  I've said too much.

Unless you have one of these pink Kindles and use the experimental "UR" option. Then you could already read it and have discussions now.

Argh, I couldn't help myself. I just dropped $37-plus on the last four. I'm about halfway through "Dragonfly In Amber" and I just KNOW I will be reading all of them in order.

Nessabug, I was one of the lucky ones who got the whole series when it was priced lower.  But I can tell you that I would have bought them at the higher price.  I am about 1/3 of the way through Dragonfly In Amber, and loving it.

It's two o'clock in the morning, and I just finished reading DiA.  It's not like I haven't read it several times before, so I have no excuse.  I was reading Chapter 46  before going to sleep.  I kept going and going, but forced myself to stop.  I slept for about an hour, then woke up and had to finish it all. 

Now, I can't get back to sleep.

I almost got the audio book a couple of months ago

Arkhan (& everyone else) - DO listen to the unabridged audio version as well as reading the story.

I got introduced to the series through the CDs at my local library. Then I bought all the DTB pb versions & re-read. Now I swap back and forth between each; have re-read about 4 times.

Both versions have much to offer, but I believe that I would have MISSED A LOT in the print version if I had not first listened to the story. Davina Porter is wonderful as a narrator - To me it was like "seeing" a broadway play. Her accents and pronumciations of all the different languages used was fabulous - and I just skipped over the Gaelic & French that I did not understand in the print version. Her narration brings it to life!
