So I don't own a kindle yet and I was actually thinking about buying a nook. But $189 seems like a very good price. Still a little expensive for me personally, but is it worth it?

You have come to the right place to find out. Yes it is worth it. I paid 259.00 and it was worth it at that price. There is a lot of information on the site. If you have questions don't be afraid to ask. Welcome to KB.

Yes, it is so worth it. I purchased mine almost a year ago at $299.00 and would be so lost with out it. The Kindle Boards is one of the best place to help with any questions. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help. The $189 price is a good price for what you get. Check Amazon for the author/books that you would be reading to see if they have their books for the Kindle (all the authors that I read are out on the Kindle so that was an easy one for me). One of the best things with Amazon is their Kindle customer service. You have 30 days to try it to make sure it is for you and they are there for any support that you may need.

Welcome to the Kindle Boards.

Thanks for the welcome.  I definitely like the idea of trying it out for 30 days. I'm just not sure if I can spare the $189 right now. But then again, a couple of tutoring jobs should cover it. When does this price end?

It's not a sale price that is the new lower price.  Grin

Really? Cool, then I don't have to rush. In fact, my anniversary is next month. I'll start hinting that I want one.

Thanks!

I think the answer that you'll be seeing over and over on this board is that "yes, it's worth it", but then again, you're asking it in a room full of people that were willing to pay that and more for a Kindle, lol.

Then get a refurbished unit for $139.99. . . .same 1 year warranty and 30 no questions asked return policy.

I paid $359 for my Kindle 1 almost two years ago.  I saved for eight months to buy it.  Its capacity is around 200 books.... the capacity of the Kindle 2 is around 1,500 books.  Is it worth what I paid.... absolutely!!  And then some!!  Would I do it again at the $359 price??  In a heartbeat!  It's hands-down the most incredible purchase I have ever made.

The Klassic Kindle was $399 when it first came out. So in about 2 years, the price has been cut in half.
I'm thinking about purchasing a back-up K2 in case I don't like the changes the next model brings.

Yes, the Kindle is worth it.  I purchased mine for $259.  With the lower price, I will likely get one for my daughter and son- next birthday or maybe Christmas.
I love my Kindle.  It goes everywhere with me and I have read so many more books since having it.  I have discovered so many new authors.  The Kindle World is a great place to live.

Absolutely worth it!!!  By the way I purchased a refurb K2 for my daughter for Christmas and she and I have both been very happy with the purchase, there have not been any glitches at all.

It's definitely worth it.  At $189 it's a huge bargain.  I paid $309 for my K1, $489 for the DX and $219 for refurbished K2 (US).  I was hesitant about the first one until I actually placed the order.

Me too actually.  I bought it fully intending to take advantage of the 30 day return policy.  Amazon suckered me in with the "Preorder while there's still some left!" and I'm a bit of a technophile.  The first night I spent reading on it (which ended up being all night) I knew I had to keep it.

I paid $359 for my K2 when it first came out. Since then via firmware upgrades the product has gotten better and the price was cut in half (almost). I loved my Kindle from day one and thought it was one of the best $359 I ever spent. Now it's better and cheaper. Darn right it's worth it.

I bought my K2 almost a year and a half ago at $359.00 and never regretted it.  It is the greatest electronic toy I have ever owned. I use it every day, whenever I want, anywhere I want.....it's so handy and convenient.  By all means grab one for $189.00.  You won't regret it.

$139 for the US.   $169 for the Global.
Now....if they could only add epub compatibility.

$139 for the US.   $169 for the Global.

As far as I know, they only sell one kind now. . . . .But it is possible that the overseas price is higher just because. For me the link just shows the $139 price.  Anyway, it would be the same device:  K2i, as it's called, with the ATT radio.  I do NOT believe they are offering the one with the Sprint radio any more, the so called K2US. . . . .though it is possible that if you talk to a human being, there may be some available and they might sell you one if you have issues with ATT connectivity where you are.

No, KayakerNC is right that the $139 refurb is for the US, it says "U.S. wireless" right above; if you click on that link and then click on "return to product info" you'll see it's the US version with no 'new' units for sale, and shows on that page that there's a 'newer model' -- the international version -- for sale.  If you went to the regular K2i page, the refurbs linked from there are $169.
