Giving Black Jack a wedgie with a claymore is interesting, but then, no descendants. I want to respond to this SOO bad...but instead I'll just say you have to keep reading the books after you finish Outlander...

I'll join you, because I have read the entire series too. Just had to point out Frank was Black Jack's descendant.

The Outlandish Companion Earlier in this thread I promised a review of this book, but will do it in the spoiler thread because it covers the first 4 books of the series.

The Outlandish Companion Earlier in this thread I promised a review of this book, but will do it in the spoiler thread because it covers the first 4 books of the series. While volunteering at the library this morning, I discovered they had a copy. I flipped through it but realised it would have too many spoliers for me. Looks to be a great resource for fans of the series.

QUESTION 8 - can you imagine what Claire went thru being in love with 2 men at the same time. She still loves Frank. They are like honeymooners, getting re-aquainted again. Then you have Jamie ......ahhhhh Jamie.........who's Claire is on a honeymoon with. She doesn't stop to think if she leaves Jamie, how will she feel. She's in love with Jamie, but is trying not to fall in love. She's resisiting it because she has to go back home & leave him behind. She only wonders how Jamie will be afterwards. She still wants to go home, back to the future & who can blame her. However, if it were me, I'd take Jamie back with me. Okay, I can't re-write the story. LOL! I want Jamie, so if Claire doesn't, I'll take him off her hands. *Yes, Gertie, lots of steamy scenes this week. In fact lots of stuff happened this week. I would be interested in hearing the male's point of view on this here. *Is it apparent to you that Jamie & Claire are acting like husband & wife or at least like a couple in love? ***Would anyone here leave Jamie to go back home to the future if you were Claire? What would you do if you were Claire???

I am with you. I like my comforts of the 21st century, but without Jamie - I don't know.

***Would anyone here leave Jamie to go back home to the future if you were Claire? What would you do if you were Claire??? Call me crazy, but I would. First of all, Frank's more my 'type' <ducking>. Jaime is cute and all, and not dumb or anything, but I've never been drawn to the big hairy he-man type. Also, I like to be clean. . . .hot baths would weigh much heavier in my thoughts than they did in Claire's. This, of course, assumes I had survived this long, which I probably wouldn't have. But, yeah, I'd go home in a heartbeat, thinking "well, THAT was a weird dream, though it had a few nice-ish parts, glad I've woken up. Sure hope it Never Happens Again." You all wouldn't like a book about me. . Ann

I haven't seen MicDiddy on the boards anywhere for the past week or so.

I think I probably wouldn't want to go back to the future because the adventure and romance was so exciting, but then some time later I'd really start to miss the hot baths and comforts and wonder if it was the right decision.

It’s been a busy week here at the Scott household. I didn’t get back as soon as expected but I wanted to participate even at this late hour. As usual, all of your comments have added a great deal to my reading of this book. For what they’re worth, here are some of my thoughts
Chapter 17 "We Meet a Beggar"
1. How has Jamie and Claire's relationship changed since their wedding?
They seem to be getting closer. Claire has real feelings beyond friendship for Jamie but she’s not yet ready to admit them. She is still intent on getting back to her own time.
Chapter 18 "Raiders in the Rocks"
2. Do you feel Jamie is taking advantage of Claire by sleeping with her after the skirmish (when the men are nearby)?
Not necessarily taking advantage of her but not as considerate of her feelings as he has been. A different side of Jamie? Getting a little more comfortable as her husband?
3. How did you feel about Claire's training in the art of how to dirk a man?
I must admit to skimming rather than reading this part. It was necessary but went on a little to long for me. She is living in a dangerous time and has proven she will put herself in dangerous situations so she needs to be able to defend herself.
Chapter 19 "The Waterhorse"
4. Why was this incident at Loch Ness significant to the story?
I absolutely loved this part. I’m a big Nessie fan. I believe the part that is significant is her being watched. It probably appeared to the guy watching that she was communicating or controlling this “monster”
Chapter 20 "Deserted Glades"
6. It is at this point that we learn that Dougal may have been the one to shoot Jamie. How does this change your feelings toward Dougal, or does it reinforce those feelings?
No more ambiguous feelings about Dougal for me. I’m going back (mostly) to my 1st view of him. Dougal 1st Clan second and only if it doesn’t interfere with what Dougal wants Everybody else a distant 3rd and only if it doesn’t interfere with what Dougal wants.
At this point I don’t know if Dougal shot Jamie. I can’t figure out what he would have gained from shooting him and then help save him.
7. When confronted, Claire has to kill a man to prevent him from raping her. Does it seem like this act comes to easy to her?
I agree that killing does not come easily to Claire. She was reacting to a terrible situation and did what she had to do. Claire has proven herself to be a survivor.
8. After beginning to find happiness with Jamie, is it right for her to try to escape to Craigh Na Dun? (Which occurs the day after they are attacked in the glade.)
I agree with Maureen, "Claire seems to be trying to escape without really thinking about whether she wants to still or not. I kept thinking, wait a minute, what are you feeling before you run off to Craigh Na Dun"

Giving Black Jack a wedgie with a claymore is interesting, but then, no descendants. And without Black Jack's decendants Clarie would not have been at Craigh Na Dun and she would never have met Jamie and we wouldn't know anything about Black Jack so he would be safe from a claymore wedgie so Claire would have been at Craigh Na Dun...

Yes, Gertie, I have been a bit anxious. I've been raising my hand all week & going ooh ooh ooh, like a little kid in class, begging for the teacher to call on him/her. The funny part is that you don't even know what I'm talking about since I have to wait until Mon. It's Monday!!! 1:49AM.....tic tock, tick tock .....

I would stay with Jamie. I am a hopeless romantic and think love would help me forget the comforts of the future. I think I would see it as an adventure.
Not only did I catch up with the book klub reading, I finished the book. I could not put it down! There are few books I read more than once but this one I will read again after I complete the series.
Thanks to all of you who recommended it, this is another of those books I never would have chosen for myself!

<snip>
At this point I don’t know if Dougal shot Jamie. I can’t figure out what he would have gained from shooting him and then help save him. I think that Dougal was trying to keep Jamie from heading for Lallybroch. He's either trying to keep Jamie where he can control him, which Column would want as well, or he doesn't want Jamie knowing what's going on at Lallybroch. This week's reading will tell us. I know the feeling. So many times in the discussion I have literally sat in front of my computer with my hand over my mouth to keep from shouting out (or typing out) spoilers. Give me a few minutes. I'm too inundated right now to get a recipe (I'll catch up later this week) and the questions are more important. Not only did I catch up with the book klub reading, I finished the book. I could not put it down! There are few books I read more than once but this one I will read again after I complete the series. It's a book that you almost have to rush through to find out what happens, and then you go back to savor again and again. Thanks to all of you who recommended it, this is another of those books I never would have chosen for myself! Good to hear. How many times did you cry? I sometimes cry just thinking about it, and there aren't too many books that affect me that way.

How many times did I cry...let's put it like this, the tissues were on the bed with me. I rushed through the last 6 to 8 chapters but I am going to read them again for the wonderful experience. Will read the entire book again.
