Yes, I've wondered about these market share claims. Knowing how marketing people think, the logic probably went something like this down at Apple:

"In quarter 1 of 2010, the number of ebook sales reported on this particular website was X. Since we are now selling Y ebooks in Q2 of 2010, let's compare it to the total from Q1. What? Only 7% of total sales even after we cheated a bit? Hmm... Let's talk about units, not sales dollars, that way we can count all our freebie titles. Also, let's throw in all the books that are using our Kindle app on Ipads, meaning the money really went to Amazon. 15% huh? Okay, tell Jobs to stick to that."

Then Jobs goes out and says "We have achieved a 20% market share."
