I love Shelfari.  I forget to input books I've read and such, though, half the time, sadly.  Since Kindle's now linked with twitter and facebook (which I could care less about), how cool would it be if you could update your Shelfari stuff from your kindle - mark a book as read (with the current date as default) at the very least, maybe let you give it a rating, too.  I think it would be cool :-)

I hadn't heard of Shelfari, use Goodreads myself... but it would be fun to see the Kindle linked up to something like it Smiley
Playing around and creating an account there now too. Another password to remember, lol

Shelfari is also owned by Amazon, it would be nice to see some integration.

Sounds like a sensible idea to me (which means it probably won't happen!). I've just started playing with Shelfari and like it very much. Does it deal with ebooks too? Do many Kindle Boarders use it?

Thanks for pointing out that great site for me! I just registered, now I'm collecting the books I'll read when my Kindle arrives. Also, it take a lot of time to gather all the books I've read, makes one proud:) Their database is amazing, contains even our lesser-known Hungarian books.

How is Shelfari different from Goodreads?

I've used Shelfari for a couple of years already. I keep my link in my signature, and I update my Shelfari shelf when I update our monthly book count thread.

The very shallow answer Leslie? It's prettier, lol. Also -even though I am JUST getting started- by clicking a book you can easily search for more books in the same category/genre and it's possible to add things like character descriptions to a book description. I haven't figured out yet if I can create extra 'shelves' though.

I have been using Shelfari for a couple of years now and love it for keeping track of my library.  I really like the "tag" feature where you can tag every book with multiple tags and sort.  You can add all sorts of other info. about your books, too.  Pretty comprehensive.  I created a "Kindle" tag so I can bring up all of the books that I have on my Kindle.  Your tags can be very specific like Kindle Mysteries  or Kindle Cozy Mysteries.  Very easy to use and seldom have had any problems.  I would highly recommend it.

I am not sure exactly what you mean by "extra shelves," but if you use the tagging feature you can create all kinds of shelves.  For example, you could tag all of your mysteries.  When you hit your "mystery tag" it will show a shelf of all of your mysteries.  You can create a tag for a certain author, tag all of their books, and when you hit that tag in your list, you bring up a shelf with all of those books.  So, in essence, you can create as many shelves as you want.  It is a great feature.

If Amazon ever implements the "App Store" they had talked about several months ago, this would probably be fairly easy to implement for anyone with some programming knowledge. Although, I'm not sure Amazon will give apps access to 3G for something like this... that could end up costing them a pretty penny. But maybe they'd allow it as a Wi-Fi only app? Who knows... =)

Ah yes, the tags have the same result as shelves on Goodreads do Smiley Thanks for explaining that functionality
