Update: I added a poll so you can vote on your preference above. The poll will be open for 1 day. Then we'll update the forum software to assign new member status levels, using the option receiving the most votes above. AUTHOR THEMEDr. Seuss Kindler ?? Kindler ?? Kindler ?? Kindler ?? Kindler Gutenberg Kindler BOOK TYPE THEMEPicture Book Kindler Chapter Book Kindler Short Story Kindler Novella Kindler Novel Kindler Epic Kindler ACADEMIC THEMEKindle Freshman Kindle Sophomore Kindle Junior Kindle Senior Kindle Master Kindle Ph.D. > > > > > > > > > I enjoyed reading this thread regarding our "member status" system. (The comment from Teninx got a chuckle out of me.) Here is how we currently award stars and status to our forum members: Newbie - 1 star - less than 50 posts Jr. Member - 2 stars - 50 or more Full Member - 3 stars - 100 or more Sr. Member - 4 stars - 250 or more Hero Member - 5 stars - 500 or more Those are the forum defaults, but we can customize those - both the status titles, as well as the post counts to get there. So, can I get some suggestions on appropriate status titles for various levels of posts? For example, "Kindle Kid" for less than 50 posts, etc. It is also possible to have more than five different status levels. Your ideas, please! - Harvey

When I was in the Army the term newbie, also sometimes abbreviated with three letters, was very derogatory so I’ve changed it on the forum I admin to Newcomer.

Well, Angela,
Maybe newbie isn’t so bad if it gets people to post. There’s nothing more depressing to a forum administrator than an empty forum where you hear nothing but echoes.

I've typed several replies to Harvey's message, but have self-censored each one. For the entire text of my postings regarding member status, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with proof of age to....

What is this, some sort of everything-twisted-backwards forum? You're supposed to ignore me until I've proven that (1) I will never ask a previously answered question, (2) I'm persistent enough to continue posting, and (2) my contributions are up to the collective standard. Harvey, Leslie, RovingSoul, Betsy, and other admins I might not have encountered or remembered to mention, thank you for making this such a pleasant and helpful place!

One could use a school 'system'. Elementary, Middle, High, College, Graduate, PhD.
Or Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Undergrad, Grad Student, Master, Doctor.
I agree with the others that the term Newbie is not the best.
Or. . . correlate it to the way stories have been told historically: Oral tradition, scratched on clay, carved in stone, inked on scrolls, printed in books, e-published on Kindle.

Or maybe titles that are writing and reading-related: like "short story" for less than 50 posts, novella for up to 100, novel for up to whatever the next level is, then epic and encyclopedia!

Oh, I really like that idea. If we want more levels the lowest one could be essay and maybe anthology between novel and epic. And if anyone gets to 5000 posts, we'll just call them Shakespeare. Ann

I kind of like that. Maybe with "Kindle" as a prefix - - i.e. Kindle Freshman, Kindle Sophomore, Kindle Junior, etc.

Ann I like the books and authors idea! 5000 posts is Shakespeare; 10,000 posts is Dickens, 15,000 posts is Gutenberg! Dr. Suess - the new folks Carolyn Keene 50-99 J. D. Salinger 100-249 just off the top of my head. But NO J.K. Rowling, Tom Clancy or John Grisham! L

I like some of those ideas, but the big question is: Why does Harvey have 5 stars when he only has 106 posts?

Simply put, because he is the MAN! He made this whole thing possible, he should have 10 stars.
