I figured with the massive surge of new need for covers coming up with the K3, I would weigh in on my experience with the Octo Vintage Book Cover I have used (and loved) with my K2.  It's my greatest hope that Octo releases this cover again for the K3--I'll snap it up.

If you love the look of vintage, worn, well loved journal covers, then this, hands down, the right cover for you.  The more you use it, the better it gets.

Aesthetically, the leather soaks the character of use up...changing color from a whiskey to a deep chocolate, scuffing, softening, creasing...it's delicious all the way around.  It has the distinct feeling of a vintage journal, the appearance allows for carrying anywhere--no one is the wiser that it is carrying a Kindle.  It truly does mix old and new.

Functionally, it's solid.  While it does secure the Kindle using the hinge system, small elastic corners protect the device from cracking--although care is always advisable.  It's extremely durable...this past month I accidentally got the cover wet, having set a towel on it...it wasn't "soaked" but damp.  Unlike a finished leather or a colored leather, once the spot dried it seamlessly blended itself in...you would never know.

The downfall...when I ordered this cover I read that others had issues with discoloration of the Kindle--a faint, light, almost invisible yellowing from where the unfinished leather of the cover rubbed the device...and yes, this did happen.  Well, at least I think it happened...my husband has never been able to tell and thinks I'm crazy.  Maybe I've just "convinced myself" that it happened.  Either way, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this.  If you skin your Kindle, or plan to skin it, or maybe you don't care...this wouldn't or doesn't or won't apply to you.

Public feedback...Before people notice I'm reading on a Kindle, they notice my cover.  I've had more compliments and inquiries about that than I have had about the device itself.  My husband, who is otherwise unmoved by the Kindle (shame on him, I know!!!) tells me how cool he thinks the cover is.  I know, I know...it's about the Kindle itself, but as a woman, I firmly believe accessories make the outfit...and this cover MAKES it for me!

In closing, I've played around with various covers but this is a favorite.  Its perfect for either a man or a woman and comes in both K2 and DX sizes currently (crossing my fingers on the K3 model!!!).  Pair with the Off White Oleander Borsa Bella Bag for the perfect mix of texture and style!!

Nice review! I liked it better when it had the string that wrapped around to close it, but it's still a great looking cover.

Edit: This is the one I was talking about...

If only it came with a clasp of some sort to hold it closed. <sigh>
